3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JUN 12, 2013 Got a bomber of this from the Heavy Seas tour a few months ago. Poured into snifter glass, very dark brown with cream head. Aroma of roasted malt sweetness, bread, chocolate and some wood. Taste is malty and sweet, caramel and eucalyptus wood notes. Heavy and thick palate. Very good.
aged 3 years, but even so, sorry matt, this was nasty .. . caramel brown .. cardboard and sweet cereal .. . mouth is gone, ruddy ugly finish .. . oh well, aging is silly anyways matt .. . . diet soda? is that some kind of joke? BiiruBierBeer (1059) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - NOV 8, 2014
Really nice malty cramelly doppelbock smell. Pretty nice doppelbock taste although there is a minerally note to it. Medium carbonation with very slight foam. daknole (11048) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - NOV 8, 2014
Brown pour, light brown head. Dates, figs, fruitcake, woody notes, toasted bread, dark honey. Pretty good. snoworsummer (6285) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - OCT 22, 2014
Finally drinking my 2012 bottle. Pours dark brown with copper tones and a thin, fizzy off white head. Tastes like dry raisin, earth, booze, nutty, a little earthy, and very malty. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like malt, raisin, booze, and dry tobacco. hotstuff (5281) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - OCT 8, 2014
Backlog rating on 10-29-2012 (Bottle) This beer has a small smooth tan head that has a long retention, transparent reddish brown hue, fast rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is malt, chocolate, wood, semi-sweet, and rich. The flavor is malt, caramel, chocolate, semi-sweet, and a hint of wood. The mouthfeel is light carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer is very quaffable, the malt is upfront and is worth trying.

22oz bottle 4/30/14 (Crown Liquors #15)-41° in Mug-Pours a dark brown with a HUGE tan head. Not sure if infected or what. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, and toffee. Taste of the same. This brew is actually well balanced and quite smooth. AirForceHops (8037) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 27, 2013
22 oz. bottle from Hampton Falls Village Market. Damn near black in color with a whisper of head. Nose is light notes of roasted grain and coffee. Flavor is hints of coffee, lager yeast, molasses and very weak subtle wood flavors. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy without any notes of alcohol tones. A slight herbal notes. Really easy to drink and pretty well crafted. If you have a bottled in the cellar, you may want to drink now, something is telling me it’s starting to fall off. otakuden (1783) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - OCT 20, 2013
Pours dark brown, like liquid treacle, under a soft woodsy head which fades into a broken bubbly layer that clings desperately to the sides of my glass. Swirls with not lace.

Burnt generic sugars along with maple and treacle. Singed woods, rustic. The bitterest purest dark cacao. Black strap molasses and black root. Nutty bitter apple seeds. Charcoal and cinders in the back.
Medium weight and clean mouthfeel carries the flavors smoothly across the tastebuds. Burnt sugars are the glue that hold everything together – treacle and maple. Apple skins and burnt wood in the back swallow. Black strap molasses underneath. Nice chest warming quality thanks to the higher ABV. Tobacco leaf in the breath. Boozed prunes lead into boozed maraschino cherries in the middle.
Quite an intriguing doppelbock. Rustic, almost smoky, and meaty with leanings towards the finest barrel aged rums. Rich and relaxing and I wish I had more.
Pours dark brown with a tan head and aroma of caramel and malt. Taste is of caramel, bread, malt, and nuts with a malty, light fruity finish. Hides the alcohol well and solid for it’s style jjgmd (2295) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - AUG 14, 2013
Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Nose is malty, with slight alcohol and wood. Taste is malty with some alcohol, some grain and wood. Finish is short and dry. Fair at best, not a real lager lover. Quaff Score 6 / 10
