COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Smoke On The Water is a rich and complex porter. The subtle smokey flavor comes from the use of smoked malt. Try it with anything that’s been cooked on a grill or smoker to compliment the flavor.

Sampled on draft at the World Beer Festival Richmond, 6/12/10. Pours a dark hazy brown color with a tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of smoke, peat and light roasty notes. The taste is caramel, smoke, chocolate and a lightly hoppy finish. Medium bodied.

22oz bottle. Black pour, light tan head. Aroma of malted chocolate shake. Flavor has a lot of chocolate malts, nice char, roasted barley. Creamy texture. Not much smoke. In fact, none. A great porter. Reminds me of the ROGUE quality. But, Where’s the smoke? I would have scored this beer much higher if there was smoke. Very tasty overall, another triumph for those Heavy Seas guys.

First taste comes across similar to a stout. As the beer begins to warm, the flavor changes to a bit of a more mild drink. Sweet, roasted malts with just a hint of smokiness.

actually not especially smoky. pretty subtle, in fact. much more roast comes across, a little touch of dry acrid earthiness. very smooth and creamy mouthfeel, but with a slick sort of oiliness in there too. chocolate notes serve to smooth it out a bit. at the wbf in RVA. overall a good one, a nice treat.

Black with a fizzy tan head. Faint grain and smoke aroma. Earthy smokey malt taste with some dark chocolate notes. Alcohol reasonably well hidden.

HighGravity (926) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUN 19, 2010
The smoke is bit too subtle for me although this is a pretty good drink. Nonetheless, it is enjoyable roasty Porter that to me comes off a bit stoutish due to the smoked malt playing with my palate. The low percentage of smoked malt comes of like roasted barley to me.

At wbf richmond. Dark brown good brown head. Barely smoky. More chocolate and roast. Much like a baltic porter. Good silky body.

Firkin at craft ale house. Not that smokey for a beer with smoke in the name. Not bad, but not a standout.
