Smoke On The Water is a rich and complex porter. The subtle smokey flavor comes from the use of smoked malt. Try it with anything that’s been cooked on a grill or smoker to compliment the flavor.

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2011 Bottle. Poured black with a brown/red hue with a small light brown creamy head that was fully diminishing and had poor lacing. The aroma was of burnt dark chocolate malts and a doughy yeast with notes of licorice, coffee, and a smokey alcohol scent. It tasted lightly sweet with hints of dark chocolate and licorice at the start then progressed into a smooth-bitter-smokey-coffee flavor that exploded on the tastebuds and stayed with you for a wonderfully long time. Mouthfeel was full in body and creamy in texture with a nice soft carbonation. Overall an extremely tasty brew. If only all smoked beers tasted like this.

Bottle from backlog notes. Pours a cola brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor had roasted malt, dark chocolate, subtle smoked malt, a subtle sweetness, smoke character is not very strong here, light coffee, decent.

Rated on 8-11-2011 (Bottle) The appearance is a medium sized semi-fizzy head that mostly diminishes, opaque black body and no lacing. The aroma is malt, chocolate, light smoke, and grassy hops. The taste is malt, lightly bitter, light smoke, and lightly roasty. The mouthfeel is lively, watery and thin. This beer is light-medium bodied. This beer is not very smokey tasting for the flavor. It has a few porter characteristics, but needs more body. It is well worth trying.

I don’t normally like smoked beers but this one was excellent. Nice and malty upfront with dark roasted fruit flavors and a warm alcohol finish.

Pours black with a dark tan head. Scent is dark fruit, smoke, chocolate. Taste is sweet, rich malt, roast... Not too much smoke, but exceptional, smooth, balanced notes and flavours. Great, just plain great.

Bottle:   Nearly black, thin sudsy beige head, spotty lacing.   Soft smokey nose, subtle roasted malts.   Sweet roasted malt start, followed by a nice smoke aspect.   Soft porter, soft smokey aspect.   Very easy drinking, clean.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Has a slight grape popsicle flavor profile, oh, and also tootsie roll.   Smooth overall, but not a smokey example, not a robust roasted malt example.   Smooth, easy drinking, clean, and enjoyable for a smoked Porter.   Better than most I can say.

courtesy of Adrian Dänzer - clear very dark brown almost black beer with a poor head retention; aroma of tar and smoke; notes of cacao; full-bodied and sticky;lively palate; a good sweet malt backbone followed by a fair bitterness; the smokeyness appears more in the finishalong with nutty and black cherries notes
