Phantom Ship is an exciting Belgian-style tripel aged in bourbon barrels. Goldenrod in color with a dense head and creamy mouthfeel, this robust, bold brew presents phenolic flavors of white pepper and peach skin from the warm fermentation, along with vanilla and subtle spiciness from the bourbon-barrel aging.

Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours golden with a modest white head and a woody aroma. There is a hearty pale malt flavor with some peach and a lot of bourbon. Huge oak finish. This is a very unusual brew that is rather fun to drink.

Bomber from Bruisin’ Ales. Pours hazy dirty copper gold with a transient beige head. Aroma of brown sugar, peach and hot spice. Med body or better. Flavor is wood, peach, a little pepper, some earthy phenolics, but I am not having success with bourbon. Might be in this complex mix. Finishes towards dry with peppery spice. Verging on astringent. Good stuff for an evening.

Deep copper coloured body with a very thin, single centimetre tall off-white head. As soon as the top is cracked, the bubbles spill over and leave a bunch of the beer everywhere. Aroma of rich oak, grain, yeast, hay, grass, dry oak and a lot of candy sugar along with some apples and light fruits. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich oaky and dry flavours with some coriander seed, curacao, full oranges, grass, oak, vanilla and quite a bit of alcohol, syrup and unfinished sugars. Aftertaste shows some oak, dry grain, caster sugar, vanilla, light grapes, apples, pears and a bit of figs and pitted fruits. Overall, a good rich and very dry beer with some complex flavours, but nothing overwhelmingly so. A bit too dry, herbal, fruity and grassy, but shows well and is very subdued and easy-to-drink given the style and ABV. A good age to this bottle, it was very clean already, another year or two would be nice, but not necessary. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 17-May-2015 for US$9,61 sampled at home in Washington on 15-November-2016 with a special code on the back as 15032.

mansquito (6988) - Nueva York, New York, USA - DEC 25, 2015
The Bodega, Brooklyn tap: pours orange with little head. Aroma is a bit of barrell with fruit and spice and that fun stuff. Taste is a bit sweet. Tad bit spicy. Alcohol is pretty nicely covered. Not too bad.

chinchill (5346) - South Carolina, USA - NOV 25, 2015
Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Piraat tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours with a moderately dense bone-colored head over a slightly hazy orange-amber body. Retention is good and lacing is medium.

Aroma: Bready malts, fruitcake, yeast, and undertones of alcohol. Woody barrel aging effects with delicate bourbon.

Flavor: Lightly toasted malts, soft fruit, faint spiciness, vanilla, bourbon and yeast.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, semi-dry finish. Smooth, medium body and medium+ carbonation. Alcohol presence is light for ABV.

Overall: An enjoyable, quality Tripel with a twist: light-moderate effects of bourbon barrel aging.

I initially tasted notes of warm cider, basically spiced. As the beer warms a bit, the flavored are getting richer and deeper with time. This is and amazing beer, it's going to become a favorite.

altonbrownd (5897) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - AUG 17, 2015
Bottle from Chevy Chase Supermarket. Nice butterscotch body with small, soapy head. Nose is sweet, malty, caramel. Taste is malts, caramel, brown sugar, very alcy, spices. Sweet finish.
