3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUN 12, 2015 Bomber into snifter glass, clear deep ruby red color with light tan head. Aroma of caramel malt, ginger and some spiced rum. Taste adds gingersnap cookies (really), some vanilla, bready, dried fruit, light earthy hops and some booze. Heavy body, low carbonation, sweet, creamy with dry slight-tannic finish. This really is a good Christmas beer, liquid ginger snaps and rum.
Aroma caramel, basement aromas,
Appearance red, clear, fizzy, white foam,
Taste medium sweetness, lightly bitter,
Palate light body, thin feel, soft carbonation,
Overall I would have liked to try this beer fresh. I’m tasting a thin malty beer that doesn’t have a wow factor. Not my type of beer but not a terrible one. I don’t think I would suggest this beer to a friend Beerdedone (3452) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 31, 2015
Bottle. Pours dark red with a medium tan head. Aroma of ginger, caramel, vanilla and rum. Flavor of caramel, ginger, rum, vanilla, dark fruit and holiday spices. Creamy texture, medium carbonation, dry finish. jabersquawk (17) - Portland, Maine, USA - JAN 26, 2015
Wonderful warming beer. Nicely balanced with the rum barrel aging and ginger.

Pours an extremely hazy brown with a nice white lacy head. Aroma is sweet and a little spicy: heavy malts and spices: like cardamon maybe? Taste has a spicy bite up front and a great malt back end. Moderately thick with a fair bit of carbonation. fattybladdy (830) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - SEP 21, 2014
Draft, pours a dark brownish red. Dark fruit aroma. Taste of dark fruit, ginger, sweet caramel, light vanilla.

Nice color, quick dissipating lacing with spotting. Delicious brew, definately like a dark and stormy beer. Ginger is overpowering, but the subtle aromas of tropical fruits and oak is present, and delicious. Really enjoying this line up, but much prefer the previous years bourbon imperial stout. ads135 (5010) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - MAY 30, 2014
A bit too complex. Seems to have every dark fruit and spice under the sun. Tons of ginger and cinnamon, some molasses and pine hops. nittanyjim (118) - - MAR 14, 2014
Medium Copper, thin tan head. Liquor and caramel nose. The label says rum barrels, but I taste whiskey. Sweet malt undertones, with a slight bitter hop finish. Very smooth and creamy. Nice winter beer. obguthr (6653) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - MAR 10, 2014

Roanoke VA Rare Beer Festival 2014: Caramel and ginger nose. Clear rust, medium tan head. Ginger is dominant, caramel base. Alcohol noticeable but pleasant, medium body. Little rum character save for the presence of alcohol. Impressive.
Cool Santa Claus label. This is a red ale aged in rum barrels. There is a little rum in the mild aroma. It tastes smooth and sweet, with pleasant rum tones and light, spicy notes. The ABV is hidden remarkably well, and hops are barely present. Another nice one from Heavy Seas/Clipper City.
