Pours a dark brown with amber highlight. The head is about a 1/4 inch in height, an fades quickly to a thin cap and ring, leaving behind a nice webbing of lace. Smell; very nice spicy and citric hops are very dominant, but this also has a nice biscuity malt aroma in the background. Taste; citric and floral hops are upfront, but do not come off as overpowering. The toasted/biscuity malts do a very good job of balancing out the hop bitterness. Very nice, this is a beer that is good to savor, but would also be good to have a few of in a night. Mouthfeel/Drinkability; mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderate carbonation, and a great drinkability. If this were available near me, I would make it a regular in the beer fridge for the winter months.

Deep copper brown with a medium head. Both malty and hoppy. Strong and bitter. Some spice notes.

Good beer. Nice cold weather beer. Taste like spice and bitterness with a nice balance of sweetness.

Bottle. Amber color with offwhite head. Nose of earthy/piney hops, pungent grapefruit hops, and sweet malt. Flavor is a nice balance of earthy and fruity hops, though leaning toward the resiny pine hop flavor and mouthfeel, with a nice sweet malt backbone present throughout. Finish is tacky hops, very nice. I dont really think of this as an IIPA-- its pretty much right where I want a traditional IPA. That said, itd be a great summer IPA as well. Nicely done, but perhaps a bit off in the labeling/marketing.

Malty, earthy, nutty notes with some hops thrown in as well. Taste the alcohol probably a bit more than I should. Not too bad, but a bit underwhelming.

Smells of bitter and slightly sour hops, quite strong. Taste is heavy bitter hops, like an esb, with some sour notes as well with a decent malt back. Very nice well-rounded ale that hides the 7%+ alcohol very well

2006 version. Clear, somewhere between red and brown. Hoppy aroma, balanced and smooth flavor. Roughly what Id expect an "Imperial ESB" to taste like.

Bottle->Trappist: Pours a small, off-white head that exhibits good lacing atop a clear dark amber body. Malt aroma is floral with some licorice in there as well. The body is light, texture is oily, and the carbonation is lively. The duration of the flavor is average and is lightly bitter. Not a real favorite of mine by any stretch--too thin on the palate, but not a bad beer and I can see why some would put it higher than what I did, so blame this one on my personal biases.

Poured from the bottle to a tulip. Cloudy mahogany. Thin wispy head didnt stick around. Nose is toffee caramel. The palate is all about the grain bill. Nice balancing with the hops carrying the load through the middle keeping the malts from bogging down the experience. Nice clean finish leaves a little warmth in the throat, doing its job as a winter warmer.

Nice coppery color with a big frothy head. The smell is pretty mild compared to the large hops in the taste. Kind of a dry feel, and very malty. Im not sure if it should be this watery or not, but it helps the drinkability. I dont think I could drink it everyday, but nice for a change-up.
