COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A schwartzbier brewed as a cousin to our porter. Using the same ratio of malts and comparable hops and using our house lager strain we created a highly drinkable black lager.

pours a creamy tan head with black color. Aroma is roasty malts. Taste follows, nice. A bit dark for my taste, but nice occasional beer.

Not bad little brother of Perkuno’s Hammer. Too light on the ABV for me, but that’s the point of the Schwarzbier.

UPDATED: JUL 16, 2006 Heavyweight 5th anniversary party. Light malty aroma. Distinct cocoa aroma with some hazelnut coffee. Thin light brown head with light carbonation. Burnt carbon flavor but not very strong though. Some more coffee and roasted grains. Little bit of harsh bitterness and a chalky mouthfeel. Light malts present also. Dry and bitter mouthfeel. Very easy drinking. Finish was smooth. An ok brew but nothing special.

Cask...Pours ruby with medium tan head. Aroma of malt, chocoff, cabernet, alomnds, and cognac. Tastes malty, with a complex mix of cabernet, nuts, cognac, slight caramel, and chocoff. Palate is very smooth, medium. A nice schwarzbier.

Cask... poured a brownish red color with a small tan, creamy head and nice lacing. Aroma began sweet and fruity, and then turned dry, with roasty malt. Taste was also prominent chocolate, some roasty malt, and finishing smokey. There was a little bitterness present here.

Dark ruby/walnut, a fig/date/vanilla smell. Smooth medium body, nice creamy head, chocolate/fruit flavor, hint of licorice, smooth dry finish. Pretty good.

08.14.04 Sampled at HW 5th Anniv. Light roasty aromas. Black and fizzy looking beer with quick head. Flavors dry and crisp, the light bitterness of morning coffee at lunchtime. Maybe too eff for me? This might be what coffee flavored soda would taste like. I hope so! I was looking forward to this schwarz due to it’s lineage and was not let down despite ill success in the past with the style.

Dark brown with small tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Flavor of roasted malt is strong at first sip but mellows after that and finishes clean.

At first this didn’t taste like much but then with a clean palette it was much better. Not as good as the Hammer, but nice none the less.

Draft. Good beer. NIce chocolate tast to it. good mix with the malt. Alcohol could have been a little higher but I’m not complaining.
