Poured oily black with a brown head. Aroma of caramel. Some roasted coffee and chocolate. Slight oxidation but in a good way. StefanSD (2451) - Ouray, Colorado, USA - APR 5, 2009
Bottle at Toncatchers T3 tasting. A dark brown pour with no head. The aroma was more like that of a barley wine with some old fruit. The flavor was chocolate and coffee. The mouthfeel was smooth. Overall: Considering this has been sitting around for a while it was rather good. Thanks Christian. ditmier (1508) - Boise, Idaho, USA - MAR 24, 2009
2005 Bottle - Pours dk brown with no head...aroma is cocoa, toasted oak...flavour was a bit tart and oxidized...chocolate still comes through with some coffee...good to experience...forgot who brought this, but thanks! Beertracker (15) - Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA - FEB 3, 2009
Retro review from 2006. Pours up with a voluptous creamish tan head that perfectly tops the nearly opaque dark brown body. Lots of chocolate with a hint of anise (licorice) notes with maybe just a wisp of hops. Bold upfront roastiness is rounded nicely by the chocolate, caramel & Munich malts. Rich melanoidins. Good balance of bitterness. Finishes bittersweet & warming. Medium-full bodied with good depth & complexity. Very enjoyable. Sorry to see another fine brewery vanish. Here’s to the God of Thunder! CHEERS! Beertracker *Thanks to beerhandy for the opportunity HailSquishface (16) - Ferndale, Michigan, USA - JAN 15, 2009
Pours black with a thin mocha head. Smells of rich chocolate, licorice, and coffee. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and some oak in the finish. I’ve been told this was past it’s prime. If it is I wish I could have tried it fresh.

Pitch black coloured body with a nice dense brown head; fully opaque. Aroma of prunes, raisins, cherries, roasted malt, light coffee (south america), chocolate and a bit of cabbage. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong fruity taste of prunes and raisins fading to an inherent maltiness with a bit of spice on the side. Aftertaste shows mostly the raisiny flavour with some light malts and a very light-bodied finish for what the beer should have been. I’m not sure if the body faded with the age, but this is a lot lighter than expected. I sampled this 3 year old vintage purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 25-December-2005.
Dark brown with a thin tan head. The smell is dominated by dark fruits, dark chocolate and bitter cherries. Taste is full of chocolate, dates and cherries again with a slightly woody note and some acidity in the finish. You could tell it had a little age but this was still exceptional. Bottle post closing. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Sweet malty, chocolate caramel. Notes of smoke and peat with a lightly sour mildly acidic finish. Coffee bitterness and toffee.
