22oz bottle (release #8) pours with a nice dark body that supports a thin short lived mocha head. The aroma has big smooth bourbon booze notes that mix with a bourbon sweetened tart rye whiskey note as well as a light degree of sweet dark fruity esters in the background. The taste is similar as the sweet smooth bourbon tugs and pulls on the tart, almost red wine, barrel like rye whiskey notes. Between the big barrel notes I get pleasing yet too brief and mild sweet kettle caramelization and sweet dark fruity esters. This offers up lots and lots of barrel but the play between the sweet smooth bourbon and tart dry rye whiskey works. Rando7 (787) - Iowa, USA - MAY 20, 2013
Bottle pours dark purplish brown with beautiful dense tan head. Aroma dark fruits and a little sourness. Taste just a mess with pomegranate and dark fruits, hint of bourbon and some oak. Finish oak and alcohol. Nice full carbonated palate. Doesn’t work for me. blutt59 (6609) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 20, 2013
bottled, thanks to bu11zeye, dark brown pour , really nice mix of red wine and malty chocolate, just the right amount of sourness cstuartj (1020) - Washington, USA - MAY 17, 2013
Dark blackish red, thin head. Nose is vinager, whisky, wood. Sour thin attack. Long lingering finish. Not my thing. Cybercat (6346) - Georgia, USA - MAY 6, 2013
Strong aroma has a definite overtone of bourbon and whisky, plus a malty hint. Pours a rich, warm coffee brown with a thick dirty tan head. Flavor is quite sweet, a little too sweet for a beer - sorry, a point off there. It has a strong bourbon/whisky overtone and hints of malt and caramel. De trop de caramel, in fact. A good effort, but not my cup of tea - er, stein of beer. I’m glad other people liked it, though. Texture is thick and syrupy, fairly fizzy. I am drinking this, and it ain’t headed for the sink.

Bottle. Batch No. 2/Cases 1492. Bottling date 2/18/2013. Opaque murky, mahogany pour with a tall, dense brown head. Aroma is sweet and loaded with caramel but with an underlying spicy rye note and sour fruit. Taste combines tart fruit, spicy ye, chewy caramel, vanilla, light molasses, brown sugar and soft woody notes and blurs them with the sour fruitiness coming out on the back end while the sweetness and woody notes are up front. The boozy notes from the barrel aging treatment are mellow but constant throughout. Body is medium and slightly chewy up front but rapidly changes to dry and tart during the finish. The carbonation is soft and there is stickiness galore as well as mild warmth. Ends with more sour fruit notes, funky yeast, chewy caramel, brown sugar, light vanilla, booze and soft wood notes. Nice! Bacterial (3074) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - APR 27, 2013
Dark pour, slight tan head. Big dark fruit nose, some caramel and vanilla. Very sweet, complex and interesting. Big fruits, plum and fig. Some heat mixed in there as well. Going to be hard to finish the entire bottle - be sure to share with some friends! BroSpud (2283) - , Massachusetts, USA - APR 27, 2013
12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with an off white head. Fruity, musty and definitely funky aroma. Very sweet, probably from the pomegrante, and malty with dark fruit flavors among so many other flavors that change as it warms. This is quite an interesting beer and one that will probably improve with age. pet22 (87) - Delano, Minnesota, USA - APR 27, 2013
This beers flavor is unlike any other I have experienced. It should be your first and last beer for the night. Funky is the only way to describe it. Headbanger (4022) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - APR 26, 2013
22oz bottle 4/26/13 (Binny’s Naperville)-50° in Snifter-Pours a dark brown with a small tan covering for a head. Aroma of dried fruit, roasted malt, caramel, fig, and bourbon. Taste of grape juice, dried fruit, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, pomegranate, and rye. This full bodied brew has a lot going on but is still great tasting and it KICKS ASS.
