Growler from Beer Street, 03/23/2013. Suppose this must be batch 2. Pours dark brown, light tan head fades relatively quickly, nice lacing. Aroma is sour cherries, slightly vinous, light vanilla with chocolate undertones, dark rye bread and bourbon notes. Taste is vanilla dark toffee, caramel, sweet, with spicy bourbon notes, maybe a bit of hoppy bitterness, light fruity tartness tickling the tongue, choclatey vinegar finish which is a bit unconventional but works. Thick and chewy palate. Nice, the sour/funky notes are light overall and compliment the dark malty base very well. maley1 (1301) - Calgary, CANADA - APR 6, 2013
Dark brown pour with small tan head that quickly fades. Aroma of chocolate, malts, molasses, vanilla, caramel and red wine. Taste of malts, caramel, vanilla, molasses, ripe red fruits. Slightly tart and sour in the background. Lots going on in this one, very enjoyable all round. Headbanger (4020) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - APR 26, 2013
22oz bottle 4/26/13 (Binny’s Naperville)-50° in Snifter-Pours a dark brown with a small tan covering for a head. Aroma of dried fruit, roasted malt, caramel, fig, and bourbon. Taste of grape juice, dried fruit, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, pomegranate, and rye. This full bodied brew has a lot going on but is still great tasting and it KICKS ASS. bluejacket74 (1993) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - DEC 22, 2013
22 ounce bottle, bottled on 2/18/2013. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown with some reddish tints, and about a half inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. The brew smells like tart dark fruit (cherries), vinegar, whiskey, wood, lemon peel and some blackberries. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some raisins, caramel, vanilla and a bit of chocolate. I think the tart fruitiness is dominant, but the whiskey flavor is noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick and has low/moderate carbonation. I thought this was a good brew, I wasn’t expecting the tartness so it was a nice surprise. Definitely worth a try. $10.99 a bottle.

Bottle. Pours black with tan head. Aroma very oaky, touch sour, cherries. Tart, oak, malty but not very heavy. . . really enjoyable. Unusual but very good. thornecb (6020) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - MAR 21, 2014
Pours deep mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Sweet bourbon, vanilla, pomegranate and rye aromas. Thick with hot caramel and pit fruit upfront turning to a warming chocolate and pomegranate finish. LiquorHound (25) - Texas, USA - APR 13, 2015
Much different than the 2015 (which was tangy/sour).
Pours a dark black with excellent lacing.
Nose - It has grapes and chocolate notes with a rich maltiness.
Taste - medium (to just below) mouthfeel. It has a nice balance of sweet and bitter with chocolate, dark fruits, grape skins and a charred oak note lingering into the finish.

This beers flavor is unlike any other I have experienced. It should be your first and last beer for the night. Funky is the only way to describe it. blutt59 (6576) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 20, 2013
