22oz bottle (release #8) pours with a nice dark body that supports a thin short lived mocha head. The aroma has big smooth bourbon booze notes that mix with a bourbon sweetened tart rye whiskey note as well as a light degree of sweet dark fruity esters in the background. The taste is similar as the sweet smooth bourbon tugs and pulls on the tart, almost red wine, barrel like rye whiskey notes. Between the big barrel notes I get pleasing yet too brief and mild sweet kettle caramelization and sweet dark fruity esters. This offers up lots and lots of barrel but the play between the sweet smooth bourbon and tart dry rye whiskey works. ellolovey (483) - Georgia, USA - JUN 5, 2013
22 oz bottle. Bottled 02/18/13 Thick dark brown pour with amber highlights. Thick solid mocha colored head. Strong aroma of bourbon, whisky, sweet caramel, dark fruits, and the barrels. Taste is much of the same. Super sweet dark fruits, hint of funk, loads of bourbon. wood, whisky comes in on the finish. Interesting. A little too sweet for my liking. Super dry finish. marcus (10138) - Sacramento, California, USA - SEP 3, 2013
Bottle from City Beer. Pours dark brown with a nice tan head and a plum and treacle aroma. There is a full-bodied dark molasses and raisin flavor with a sweet alcohol finish. SudsMcDuff (8382) - .....Manchester United.........., Texas, USA - SEP 26, 2013
Pretty funky i guess, pours a deep brown.. Lacing is bully! ..balanced malts and tartness .. . Mouth is quite full .. . Pretty interesting brew .. . . Whenever I tell the cashier to ‘keep the change’, it takes everything in my power not to call them a filthy animal.

Draft served in a snifter at Heavy Riff. Pours a deep brown with amber edges and a small beige head. Abundant berry fruit in this one, along with plums, chocolate, figs, raisins, vanilla, caramel, oak, bourbon, and a bit of rye spice. Medium-full bodied, with a tart, funky, sweet mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. A little bit of umami character on the palate, too. Yet another complex, interesting, satisfying barrel aged beer from these guys.

12 oz. bottle (although once again labeled as a 22 oz.) poured into snifter. Pours opaque deep brown with a tinge of ruby coloring and a thin wisp of creamy tan head that quickly subsides. Aroma is sour plums and cherries with notes of wood and leather. Tart flavor up front that transitions nicely into the woody elements and a soy sauce finish. While there’s certainly a lot going on here in the flavor department, neither the sourness or the alcohol is overpowering. Another win from He’Brew. Bottle shared by a friend. Dark brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of tartness, whiskey, roast, caramel and chocolate. Malty and raisiny flavor with molasses and chocolate before a sweet caramel and tart grape finish. raphael (1239) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 10, 2015
They say its retired but its on tap at NWIPA, though "funky" isn’t part of it, and 8%. very fruity, blaanced, a little tart but not sour. aromas of caramel, espresso and plums. flavor leans more toward cherry, sweet but not to, hops somewhere, a little salty. smooth but also a little weight. balanced finish. oldrtybastrd (5002) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - APR 15, 2016
Pours a nice dark blackish amber color. Aromas of dark fruits, and some other hints, maybe bourbon, maybe coffee. Flavor is a bittersweet, malty, and drinkable as hell. j12601 (10869) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - MAR 31, 2013
Bottle shared with Mike and Tom. Pours a clear ruby tinged brown amber with a thin white head. Big funky sour fruit on the nose. Bourbon, vanilla and wood. Medium bodied, sweet and warm, bourbon and toast, none of the sourness from the nose carries over. Warm and fruity. Chewy tannins. Warm bourbon on the finish. Lingering bourbon and plums. Faintest hints of funkiness at the end. Wonder if this would get some more depth in year or two.
