Bottle shared by a friend. Dark brown pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of tartness, whiskey, roast, caramel and chocolate. Malty and raisiny flavor with molasses and chocolate before a sweet caramel and tart grape finish. raphael (1303) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 10, 2015
They say its retired but its on tap at NWIPA, though "funky" isn’t part of it, and 8%. very fruity, blaanced, a little tart but not sour. aromas of caramel, espresso and plums. flavor leans more toward cherry, sweet but not to, hops somewhere, a little salty. smooth but also a little weight. balanced finish. oldrtybastrd (5228) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - APR 15, 2016
Pours a nice dark blackish amber color. Aromas of dark fruits, and some other hints, maybe bourbon, maybe coffee. Flavor is a bittersweet, malty, and drinkable as hell. Aurelius (5652) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - OCT 13, 2017
Nice vinous, chocolate raisinette aroma. Bomber. Jacobean black-brown, hard to see through. Tangy, tart, chocolate, cedar, anise. Complex. Thanks to Jme down at Proof Production Facility. j12601 (13297) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - MAR 31, 2013
Bottle shared with Mike and Tom. Pours a clear ruby tinged brown amber with a thin white head. Big funky sour fruit on the nose. Bourbon, vanilla and wood. Medium bodied, sweet and warm, bourbon and toast, none of the sourness from the nose carries over. Warm and fruity. Chewy tannins. Warm bourbon on the finish. Lingering bourbon and plums. Faintest hints of funkiness at the end. Wonder if this would get some more depth in year or two.

Very dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma of sweet pomegranate, wood, chocolate, rye bread, prunes, bourbon and spice. Taste is rich and sweet, very slightly bitter, woody, and full of dark fruit. Low carbonation, oily, full body. A little dry. I thought it would be way too muddy with all those beers in it, and it is perhaps a tad sweeter than I’d like, but it comes off pretty well. BroSpud (2282) - , Massachusetts, USA - APR 27, 2013
12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with an off white head. Fruity, musty and definitely funky aroma. Very sweet, probably from the pomegrante, and malty with dark fruit flavors among so many other flavors that change as it warms. This is quite an interesting beer and one that will probably improve with age. TheBeerGod (6284) - Newport News, Virginia, USA - MAY 2, 2013
Bottle. Batch No. 2/Cases 1492. Bottling date 2/18/2013. Opaque murky, mahogany pour with a tall, dense brown head. Aroma is sweet and loaded with caramel but with an underlying spicy rye note and sour fruit. Taste combines tart fruit, spicy ye, chewy caramel, vanilla, light molasses, brown sugar and soft woody notes and blurs them with the sour fruitiness coming out on the back end while the sweetness and woody notes are up front. The boozy notes from the barrel aging treatment are mellow but constant throughout. Body is medium and slightly chewy up front but rapidly changes to dry and tart during the finish. The carbonation is soft and there is stickiness galore as well as mild warmth. Ends with more sour fruit notes, funky yeast, chewy caramel, brown sugar, light vanilla, booze and soft wood notes. Nice! unclemike (3195) - Junction City Kansas, Kansas, USA - MAY 24, 2013
Amber red colour. Malty sweet aroma, some heavily caramelized crystal and toasted malt with a sweet cherry fruitiness and a spicy hop bouquet throughout. Pine and earthy/mildly resinous hops. Sweet malts up front balance with the strong hoppiness later on. A bit of honeyed character. Some pine and black pepper on the finish. blklab2007 (2120) - Connecticut, USA - JUN 8, 2013
Bottle poured a dark brown color with a fizzy tan head. Aroma has bourbon barrels, rye, funky esters, dark fruit, and cherry. Mouth feel is medium with a thick coating for a sour and carbonation medium low. Flavor is rich on the barrels, dark fruit, and cherry tartness.
