Draft @ Avenue Pub. Nearly black tan head. Smells scarrrrrry! Chewy fruity rich and crazy. Caramelized pan fried toasted raisin bread crusts. Powerful and huge. Flavors are toasted raisin date bread. Solid malts character, very much pumpernickel bread character. Intense yet drinkable barleywine. Molasses in the finish. Not as scary as it seemed. Good for what it is. 22oz bottle 1/8/12 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-41° in Snifter-Pours dark brown with a small tan ring for a head. Aroma of bourbon, dried fruits, vanilla, and sweetness. Taste of bourbon, vanilla, dried fruits, caramel, toffee, and sweetness. This full bodied brew is well balanced and hides the ABV very well. Draft. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head; some lacing. Aroma is dark fruit (plums and raisins), alcohol, and bread malt. Flavor matches the nose with a hint of brown sugar. Medium/full body, medium carbonation, and high warmth. Great beer.

5 malts, 7 hops; Aged in Sazerac 6yr Rye Whiskey Barrels. Pours reddish-brown mahogany color, light tan foam. Heavy legs. Smells of heavy malt syrup, loads of sugar in the nose. There is also a good amount of booze in the nose as well. Fig, date, sugar, vanilla, alcohol aromas. Sweet flavor, there is a presence of fruit sugars like no other. Loads of chocolate malt, date, dark fruit, Whiskey barrel fruitiness. Date and fig is there! So is the barrel, a good amount of burn. Nice chocolate malt finish coats the palate after the burn has dissipated. Goes down like pure malt syrup with dark fruit puree. Very heavy bodied. It is hard to believe that there this is really a beer, as the distant cousin to the American Light Lagers(*sarcasm). Genesis 15:15, Heaven in a bottle.
It pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is roasted malts and milk chocolate. Smells awesome! Can’t pick up any fruit scents or alcohol. Taste is off the charts for me - dark chocolate, raisins and roasted malt. I don’t notice the alcohol - don?t care. I’m trying to remember the chocolate bar that had raisins......can’t remember the name. That’s what this barleywine reminds me of. Beautiful now, aging can only make it better. Pours dark with a hint of a ruby, almost blood red. Small amount of head and powerful aroma of dried fruit and figs. Taste is malty sweet with fig notes. Complex aroma of malt, toasting, roasting, burnt caramel, slight vanilla, slight Bourbon, rye, Whiskey, and wood. Poured brown/ruby in color with a small, creamy, dense, tan/brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Complex flavor is heavily sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, chocolate, Bourbon, oak, caramel, vanilla, toffee, figs, dates, slight rye, brown sugar, and dark ripe fruit. Full body. Smooth, viscous, texture. Soft to average carbonation. Malt, caramel, Bourbon, oak, chocolate, vanilla, dark ripe fruit, fig, date finish is heavily sweet. 13.4%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
