Pours dark brown with red highlights and a one finger tan head that recedes to just a light ring and leaves just a few spots of short-lived lacing behind.
Aroma starts with the Rye Whiskey and oak, then moves to a big blast of dark fruits, the figs and dates come through particularly well, the grapes and pomegranates are here, very rich smelling, very fruity, very strong and very good.
Flavor is even more rich and intense than the aroma. More about the dark fruits here. Tons and tons of dates and figs, strong notes of grapes and pomegranates, and the whiskey and oak come through in the middle to the finish. Somewhat sweet. Some people say they get soy sauce, but I don’t really get it...all about the dark fruits and whiskey barrels for me. There is some alcohol, but for over 13% ABV it is incredibly well-hidden.
Mouthfeel is medium/full bodied, somewhat sticky, low-ish carbonation, but at times still feels a little prickly.
Passed on the bottles last year, and really regret it now, but stoked to get a chance to try this on draft. This stuff is incredible, very rich, complex and delicious!
Bomber received in trade. Thank you Claspada. Pours very dark reddish brown with a mocha head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet with sweet dark bread, caramel, whisky, rye flour, wood, vanilla fudge, figs, prunes, alcohol, toffee, lemon zest and hay. Taste is very sweet, malty and fruity with sweet dark bread, figs, prunes, alcohol, whisky, roasted coconut, burnt caramel, toffee, wood, raisins and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, slightly boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and malty with sweet dark bread, figs, prunes, dark cherries, wood, roasted coconut and caramel. Quite nice... The flavour is medium sweet, medium to heavily bitter and tiny acidic with notes of wood, resin, caramel and fruits. The mouthfeel is sticky, round and light astringent with a light carbonation. Bottle from a local place over a year ago. Aroma and Flavor of dark fruit and malty, traditional barley wine. Even after a year, this one needs to mellow some...a little hot and very slightly bitter. It’s made to stand the test of time, but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Very good beer.

Deep reddish-brown pour with a bit of off-white head. Brown sugar sweetness, bourbon, rye spice, and caramel on the nose. Flavors of brown sugar sweetness, wood, and toffee. umich03jm (3512) - Flat Rock, Michigan, USA - JUL 28, 2012
UPDATED: JUL 29, 2012 Pours a very dark brown and amber color with a nice tan head that lingers a bit. Aroma is an abundance of caramel malt and bourbon mixed with figs, citrus and lots of other dark and light fruit. Taste is what you would expect. Big bourbon and sweet caramel malt at first that is quickly mellowed by a strong bitterness and fruit. Finish is mostly smooth and it leaves a nice sweet bourbon taste on the tongue. Only a very slight alcohol burn. I wish the bourbon was just a tad more subtle in this but its still very good. cbfobes (2891) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - JUL 4, 2012
On tap at Dexters, pours a dark brown nearly black with a thin head and spotty lacing, the aroma has a huge amount of malt with shiskey and chocolate, the front end of the flavor has a big chocolate amount with a finish of dark fruit and a little bit of whiskey, pretty balanced through out the entire glass, very nice. anders37 (26987) - Malmö, SWEDEN - JUL 1, 2012
