Very pretty beer with a solid, dark body and creamy head. Taste is raisin, figs, alcohol, some chocolate. Mmmm. This one is nice. Some cherry in the aroma and taste as well. Quite enjoyable. I’m waiting for my wife to say she doesn’t like it. SSSteve (4006) - - OCT 23, 2009
UPDATED: NOV 22, 2010 12oz bottle from vertical pack. almost black under a small brown head like the others. a malty dark fruit aroma. the booze in aroma and flavor is covered much better than the 12. lots of chocolate.
deep deep ruby purple color under a small tan head. robust aroma of chocolate, caramel, sour red fruit, hops. really just a bunch of everything. flavor is both of a 2ipa and an imperial stout. leaning more towards the stout. thick full body. oily. chalky. a bit hot. a real beast of a beer. a really good, well made one too...just not my thing. 10/23/09 Palidor19 (3193) - Brandon, Florida, USA - OCT 23, 2009

The aroma is complex and sweet with roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, toffee, spice, fruit, hops, and alcohol. The appearance is dark brown with a foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma with a touch of coffee. The palate is thick. Overall a fantastic beer. Slipstream (2703) - USA - OCT 23, 2009
A Belgian ale? This seemed more like a sweet stout or an imperial stout to me. Another clever label from HeBrew. 13 malts and 13 hops - wow! 13% alcohol too, everything 13. Dark pour and sticky head. Full aroma of floral sweetness, with a touch of herbs and citrus. This is a big, sticky brew with some coffee flavor, a little molasses, and a dash of herbs and smoke. If you like a rich, sweet stout, you will probably go for this. Along with the Lenny’s, this is the best thing I’ve had yet from Schmaltz. It deserves a higher rating.

22 oz. bottle from Mac’s on West Peachtree. Holy schnikes! 13 malts and hops what can I say that is a lot. Anyways, the beer looks damn good. Nice off-white almost chocolate head. The head fades away quickly. Nice black body...looks pretty good to me. Mixture of malts and hops. I remember the night I had the 12 and I had the same feeling about that beer as well. I simply think there is just too much going on. Little soy, chocolate, rye, and roast on the nose. As I said, the hops are there of course. An odd aroma that doesn’t scream Belgian. Chocolate is coming through the most; at least to me it is. Fairly nice chocolate and roast flavor. Actually a really nice roast flavor, and a decent chocolate flavor. You get a bit of the rye, but the hops quickly take over towards the end. Alcohol provides a nice warmth. Wow, if it wasn’t labeled a Belgian I would be a little nicer, but for the simple fact that is has some good qualities it is ok in my book. thegreenrooster (4562) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 21, 2009
Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a nice chocolate malt with some caramel and toffee. Flavor is milk chocolate, coffee, bourbon with some dark fruit. Then comes the alcohol burn at the end. I did not like the 12 version very much but i think the 13 has enough things in it to carry this to the soild category. HOLY SHIT! This is pure yum. It pours deep and dark with garnet edges and adequate dark tan head. The aroma is milk chocolate, caramel, roasty malts, a dash of burnt malts (13 malts, you know some of it is black patent), a touch of biscuit, a modest level of dark fruity esters and a touch of heat. The flavor is ushered in on a creamy and smooth carpet ride. The taste begins with chocolate and roasty malts and then heading toward burnt malts, caramel, dates, prunes and figs. The booze wells up about midway to join in and help move this to the finish. The roasty and burnt malts persist with light amounts of chocolate and caramel heading from the finish and into the after taste with a modest sense of booze. Seems better than 12 when it was fresh. Pours pitch black. Aroma is big but muddled. Strong. Bourbon aroma and taste at the back end. This is a snifter beer.
