3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Enjoyed on tap in a whiskey snifter. The beer pours a very deep brown to almost black, with a small (given the small top of the glass) tan head. The nose is difficult to apprehend at first, and continues to be slight throughout the beer’s consumption; eventually showing some dark fruit and alcohol. The palate is a bit more telling: a nice and semi-sweet melange of malty flavors. Bitterness is there to balance, but seems to be far less pronounced than in other American strong ales. A touch of alcohol comes in towrd the finish, but is generally impressively muted througout the palate, given the high gravity of the beer. Overall, not perfect, but impressively subtle, given its heft.
Very dark with almost a hint of purple. Moderately sized head of creamy tan bubbles. Initial impression of the aroma was only of sweet black malt, but it does seem to add depth as it sets. Initial dark malt, treacle, pears, plums, licorice, mint, and light floral scents make an appearance. Thick, but rather lifeless feel. Initial sweetness, leads to some charred, ashy flesh flavors. Dry ashy finish. The aromas promise so much more that what the flavors deliver. 10/11

Bomber thanks to Sean. I love this brewery. Pours a dark unclear black color with a medium tan head. A big fruity nose, some smoke, heat. The flavor is very sweet, sticky, oil, dark fruit, molasses, some, some spicy rye. Really drinkable despite the ABV and sweetness. Oxidized a bit which helps. 6/03/2010: He’Brew 13... Aroma: Hmmm... Weak maltiness; citrus hard candy; possibly a hint of smoke (barely). Appearance: Deep brown in color with a thin beige head and rapidly dissapears. Flavor: Richand chewy; dark malts - caramelized malts; citrusy; decent alcohol presence. Palate: Medium to medium-full in body; a touch thin; fairly smooth. Overall: Lacks richness and depth; somewhat disappointed; the high level of alcohol is degrading the flavor and depth that previous versions of this beer have had...

Dark brown colour with a tiny greyish white head.
Dark malty aroma with dark fruits, soy sauce and bitterness in the aroma.
There’s malt, some bitterness, some dark fruits, soy sauce and mild alcohol. The alcohol is quite well hidden.
66 cl bottle @ home, bought late 2009 in Pasadena, CA. Clear, deep dark red-brown color. Beige head, quickly receding. Aroma’s: sweet, sugar, red fruit, caramel/toffee, burnt sugar, alcoholic. Flavor is medium sweet, roasted, raisins, dark toffee. Strong alcohol feel. Medium to full bodied, sticky mouthfeel. Finishes slightly dry, a bit woody, lightly bitter. jkwalking05 (4743) - Arlington, Texas, USA - FEB 28, 2013

Hello. This beauty has aged wonderfully!!! Cracked it open after losing my passport and having it found at a beer bar. Dark brown color, light brown head. Rich malty, off sweet nose shows figs, milk chocolate, caramel, molasses, raspberries and rye bread. The mouth is superb, as the flavors have really melded well and shows great depth of fig, caramel and milk chocolate. Very rich, but never too sweet or cloying. Warming lingering fig finish. I loved this beer. Definitely a good winter warmer!!!. ads135 (4933) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - NOV 23, 2012
