3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
07 Release on tap at Papago in January 2011 -- the chosen year. Pours a dark brown hue with a beige head. Laces nicely. Smells predominatly of powdered cocoa and malt. Tastes like it wants to be a dark IPA -- bitter with hops and dark cocoa. Odd, but good.
From Sept 2008
I got this bottle in a trade with nutbrown. Thanks Alan!
This pours a very dark brown with red tinges throughout. Nice small but steady as she goes tannish head of foam with lots of lacing.
The smell is on the sweet side and nice. Lots of caramel malt, dark fruit, a bit of chocolate, and some smoke.
The taste is malty and very nice. The caramel is there but I get a lot of sweet and dark chocolate flavours as well, some molasses and toffee, some black cherries...nice and complex flavours but not overly so. 11%abv, eh? Just a touch of warming after the swallow is all I get....very nicely hidden!
The mouthfeel overall is on the high end of medium but at times, it definitely feels thick and somewhat syrupy...not a complaint on my part at all. The carbonation is lightly done but fits so well with this American Strong Ale and it finishes with a good dark chocolate bitterness. Jeez, for how strong it is, this is impressively drinkable. I'd probably score it higher in that department if I was drinking it in the dead of Winter. ;^)
Bottom line: Anything that makes me go "ahhh" out loud gets a damn good recommendation from me for others to try it. Go ahead, *try* it! tysongillmore (362) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 21, 2015
I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments.

"there sure is a lot going on in there. almost too much, but somehow they pull it off. definitely a sippin’ beer. malty and hoppy at the same time, with a little funkiness and dark fruit flavors. extreme." maekchu (4098) - Hirakata, JAPAN - MAY 6, 2014
Bomber. Massive dark fruit nose, with just a touch of oxidation (7-8 years old). Dark translucent brown color. Mellowed dark fruit: dried raisins, prunes, great dark chocolate, good complex bittering. Medium-heavy body. Very nice, It has aged well, doesn’t show off its high alc, and has good complexity. 2007 bottle. Malty, lightly oxidized nose, aged, raisins, chocolate fudge, oranges. Dark brown with orange, no head. Flavors of vanilla, chocolate, raisins and other dark fruits, bitterness still there. Slightly astringent in the finish, like bitter chocolate. Nicely tart, like blackberries. Dry and complex and definitely aged well.

Pours dark brown with a weak head that only left a lacing that hugged my glass. The nose is of semi roasted malts, carmel, mild burnt molasses, a hint of licorice, and moderate booze. While tasting I noticed complex flavors. There seems to be a lot going on. I could taste booze, bitter sweet flavors, there was a nice malt and hop presence. The finish is of a booze dryness with a defined bitterness with a minor sweet malty flavor that lingers. Overall not to my liking. I am sure this would have tasted better fresh. toml219 (284) - California, USA - SEP 26, 2013
Serving type: bottle
Appearance- Very Dark Brown almost black with large foamy tan cream head with lots of lacing.
Aroma- Very malty and hoppy
T/P- Taste is an abundance of hops and a little roasted malt. You can defiantly tell that there are a lot of hops in this one.
Overall- This one was not for me, I could not even finish it. I am not a big fan of over hopped beer.

Bottle. Aroma is boozy with some caramel. Pours dark brown with off white head that clings to the glass. Taste is boozy with some fruitiness and caramel malt. Finishes mostly smooth with a bit of hoppiness and booziness.

Bottle. Poured a nearly opaque dark brown color with thin orange highlights. The head was short and light brown with decent retention. Smelled of fig, chocolate liqueur, and a dash of brown sugar. There were also whiffs of tobacco and leather. Medium to full bodied with ample sweetness and a hint of roasty bitterness. Chocolate, fig, and hints of orange and alcohol-soaked apricot. An American strong ale masquerading as an imperial stout. Or is it the other way around? ads135 (5207) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - NOV 23, 2012
Another nice anniversary ale from Hebrew. I bought this as part of a pack which had multiple anniversaries in one box so could compare them and this was one of the best. Very complex, very alcoholic, but the richness is a good compliment to its bite.
