4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle big thanks to sebletitje! Pours very dark and syrupy (almost like Pedro Ximenez) with a small beige head. Big aroma of booze, figs, maple syrup, and dark fruits. Very unctuous in the mouth with soft carbonation. Tastes of port, figs, booze, tobacco, and bit o’ chocolate. Didn’t really pick up on the 15 kinds of hops used, but that’s okay. Love this stuff!
Poured from a 22 oz bottle.
Aroma is fairly malt forward, but slightly lighter than that of a stout. Lots of dark caramel and toffee with some light toasted bread and rye notes. Light chocolate, tobacco and leather. Hints of roast and molasses. Light alcohol spice. Medium light fruit notes of raisins, prunes and plums. Light oxidation in the form of sherry with some faint soy sauce and wet cardboard notes as well.
Pours black with dark brown hues on the edges and a medium sized, fairly thick, mocha head that exhibits nice retention as it recedes to a thin film that lingers in the center and on the edges. No lacing and moderately long legs.
Flavor is moderately sweet with moderately strong dark caramel, toffee and chocolate notes. Some lighter molasses and toasted bread. Lighter still, notes of tobacco and leather with some faint roast. Moderate fruit notes of raisins, prunes, plums and figs. Medium bitterness with medium alcohol spice. Light to moderate oxidation with sherry, soy sauce and wet cardboard; this is more prevalent than in the aroma.
Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with medium carbonation; its definitely on the thin side for a 15% beer. Low astringency and moderate alcohol warmth.
Overall, an alright beer but its definitely showing oxidation. I’m surprised how well the alcohol is hidden for how thin the beer is. A pretty unexciting beer; nothing is really bad about it, but nothing excited me about it either. SlovakSniper (5561) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 24, 2016
Taps rich coffee brown with a thick tan head. Aroma offers bold notes of roast malt, caramel, and bourbon riding earthly and nutty undertones. Flavor fills the mouth with rich caramel, roast malt, bourbon and nutty notes, rather sweet, more barleywine than strong ale, very tasty. Viscous mouthfeel features good fizz. I’m glad Thinking Man saved a keg, else I would never have been able to try this. Praise the Lord - Dionysus!

Visual: (cellared for 4 years). Pours brownish-black with a super-creamy smallish head, thick ringed retention, half-sticky lacing, varied speed scattered streams.
Nose: heavy sweet caramel barley malts. (lvl-7)-pungency
Attack: very thick viscosity, half oily-slick
Mid-palate: cherry chocolate cake, creamy CO2, background tangy-zing subdued alcohol, (lvl-8-sweetness), molasses, concentrated barley malt, sherry, woody
Finish: light roasty caramel sweet exhale
Summary: A big bomb of thick heavy flavours with a touch of tangy-zing to keep it all in check. Although at 15% it’s surprisingly sippable. furthur (1229) - Eagle River, Alaska, USA - MAR 22, 2016
Bottle, opaque black beer, almond colored head faded to a ring. Aroma is oak, molasses, shoyu, raisin, dried plums and figs, vanilla, brown sugar, anise, smoke. Taste is cookies, oak, smoke, coffee, vanilla, anise, tannins, figs, black currants. Really complex, sweet in the middle, roasty on the finish. Palate is super rich, carbonation nearly flat. The only flaws here are a little too much oak, and a little too sweet.

Shared a bottle with some friends. Poured extremely dark, nearly stark black color with some light cola notes on the edges. Aroma was lots of dark caramel, dried raisins, boozy grains. Flavor has very similar notes, lots of hot caramel notes, raisin, with candi notes. Alcohol is really present in this one, making it really hard one to have if you’re not splitting with a number of people. MarinaMarket (254) - POULSBO, Washington, USA - SEP 3, 2015
Sweet malt nose. Huge molasses, malt, raisin, prune, with heavy mouthfeel. Glad I held onto this. Tasted at 55F. NikkTwist (3344) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 10, 2015
Draft at Moriartys. Opaque brown pour. Off-white foam on top. Feels big. Thick body. Lots of very dark red fruit with dark caramel malts. Dried berries. Chocolate grenache. Pruned plum pudding. Black cherry cordials. Rotted oranges (in a good way). Peppery hops in the finish. Has a very nice unexpected sour kick to it which works perfectly to offset the high malts, hops and ABV. Pretty spectacular! luttonm (6758) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 17, 2015
Draft at Bottleworks, Seattle. Heavy black brown, thick foam. Sweet chocolately grain. Alc sweetness is well balanced. Thick and creamy, but enough sharpness. Raisin, leather, light chocolate. Tasty treat. Gription79 (2892) - Bountiful, Utah, USA - JAN 9, 2015
Poured from a 22 ounce bomber, thanks Craig. Notes of raisin, prune, toffee, caramel/burnt sugar in finish, very rich, nice.
