4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle -
When you make a Strong Ale, especially like He’Brew does with their anniversary beers, you throw all the rules of brewing out the window and just chuck in stuff and hope it all comes out okay. So far, their anniversary beers have been top-notch and this was no different, and defines what an American Strong Ale should be like.
The aroma on this beer was just full tilt on everything...like a beer on crank. Tons of alcohol, tons of pitted/dark fruits, chocolate, alcohol, toffee, more alcohol, floral hops, more alcohol, leaf tobacco...wow. Flavor is also just as intense as the aroma. Port wine, leaf tobacco, chocoalte covered raisins, wet dirt, leather, hand soap with a strong, strong alcohol presence. Phenomenal beer, priced incredibly well and well done for a anniversary beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from a 22 oz bottle.
Aroma is malt forward with lots of dark caramel, toffee and chocolate notes. Some burnt sugar, molasses, rye and light roast notes. Moderate dark fruit notes of raisins, plums, prunes and berry. A light meaty, soy sauce note of oxidation. Light alcohol notes.
Pours black with dark brown hues on the edges and a medium sized, thick, mocha head that recedes quickly to a small, thin film that lingers in the center and on the edges. No lacing and medium small legs.
Flavor is moderately sweet with some dark caramel and toffee notes. A medium light chocolate and rye character. Some toasted bread and a bit of a light roast note. Some light tobacco and leather. Medium bitterness. Moderate dark fruit notes of raisin, prune, plum and fig. Medium light oxidation with some soy sauce and wet cardboard. Some light alcohol notes.
Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and somewhat slick with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth.
Overall, an alright beer, but it is definitely showing oxidation. Lots of malt character with balanced sweetness. The mouthfeel was a bit on the slick side.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber, shared by Sevenhokie, thanks! Sweet toffee malt aroma with brown sugar and dark fruit throughout, delightful. Pours dark brown with a thin light brown head and nice lacing. Starts with sweet toffee and brown sugar sweetness. Finishes very smooth with dark fruitiness with a bit of booze at the end. Excellent strong ale with the alcohol hidden very well.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
not as great as the sum of it’s parts. had this in the spring along with a couple of aged or barreled jewbilations, and it just didn’t do much for me. Not bad, but at a premium price, there are far better things out there. lots of sweetness, dark fruit, a little depth, and a little alcohol. small hop presence. and a touch of spice?"

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Vintage 2010 : Huge sweet malt, dark fruit , creme bruelle, and some cellar aged "English-Styled" oxidation that mostly works. Faint anise seed, pipe tobacco, and copper along with a healthy dose of chocolate. More than a bit muddled however... Fans of Firestone Walker would like this more than I.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle... All to myself. Seems like a higher than average fill on this bottle. First sip... Awesome, this is not a big boozy super sweet mess. I have a shot at finishing this. Very dark brown / red color. Thin off-white head. Little metallic, oxidization in the nose... Spicy flavor, good roast malts, little dark chocolate. Moderate bitter taste, moderate to bigger sweet. Some light alcohol bite and warmth at the end, but it’s pretty reasonable for 14%. Good chocolate, light coffee notes. Dark fruit. Bigger body, but not chewy. Kind of a slick texture. Lighter carbonation. The fact that I managed to chief through this whole bomber without much of a problem is a huge deal and earns this an extra point. Amazing.
