bottle. I’m a little surprised by the ratings - I found this beer absolutely outstanding. Insanely complex - like drinking a top notch imperial stout. The drinkability is maybe the most impressive, could not believe it’s 16%. Maybe the most impressive beer I’ve tried in 2012. Big fan!

Bottle. Pours deep brown with a thick cream tan head. Aroma is sweet, lots of dark fruit, molasses and brown sugar, a touch smokey with some nut and fig notes. Flavor starts sweet and sugary with a lot of caramel, molasses, sweet cake, fig and raisin. Medium full to full body and a soft carbonation. Big beer

Serving: 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine Sterling. It pours a murky reddish brown with a small tan head. The nose has tons going on with lots of dark fruit, dark caramel, fig, and slight vinous notes. The flavor is certainly a mix of malts, but surprisingly it all works well together. Lots of dark caramel, slight roasted malt, dark fruit, port, and other vinous notes. The alcohol is there, but I certainly wouldn’t have guessed it’s 16%. Thick, viscous body with lots of chewiness and a last finish. Pretty damn good in my book.

Butters (4063) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - DEC 24, 2012
Sampled with Kristen on Christmas Eve 2012. Mahogany pour with light tan ample head. Amazing. i don’t know what else to say. Such an amazing brew. Nothing even close to to 16% alcohol. Sweet and malty and dark and uber rich and fig and raisin and candi sugar. Surprinsing amount of bitterness as it finishes, but not as in hops. More of an earthy bitterness. Very awesome beer. And totally love the label.

Brouwerij (959) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 24, 2012
Pours a dark brown with a quarter finger of light brown head. Smells of alcohol, malt, soy sauce, vinegar. Flavor is moderately hoppy up front. fading into alcohol and moderate malt tones. Finishes with a hoppy bitterness that lingers momentarily. Very strong, heavy, and rich. Decently palatable considering the alcohol. Overall an alright beer, but too strong for my liking.

Bottle. Black pour with a tall, frothy mocha colored head. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy and not overly sweet compared to what I was expecting. Hops notes, burnt caramel, molasses, brown sugar, roasted malt, light licorice and dark fruit. Taste is burnt caramel, toasted malt, dark-roast coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, hints of brown sugar, hops and hop resins, dark fruit and booze. Body is medium-full with a moderate, creamy, dense carbonation and lots of sugary stickiness and boozy warmth. Ends with more burnt caramel, burnt grains, toasted malt, molasses, dark chocolate notes, dark fruit, softer hops, light licorice and booze. Tasty! This could use a few months, though.

TreborWhip (393) - Reading, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 23, 2012
Bottle pours dark brown with ample brown head. Aroma of burnt malts and alcohol. Flavors of bitter espresso, pepper (burns the nose when swallowing), and heavy alcohol. Long lasting bitterness on the palate, not a hop bitterness, but more like very bitter coffee.

nimbleprop (8725) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - DEC 22, 2012
On tap at Churchkey, pours a translucent purpelish with some creamy off white head. Nose of raisin, sugar, some cake icing, burnt sugar. Flavor of raisins, figs, sweet, cheap rum, malt, chocolate, rum cake. Full, sticky finish. Heavy handed.

GT (10001) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 21, 2012
Tap at CK thanks to nmann08. 16% holy monkey. Pours a clear, deep sepia, moving to near black. Medium, tan head. Nose is sweet white alcohol, vinous, fumey vodka. Taste is salty, buoyant, sugar, tootsie roll, pistachio. Palate...it’s all booze. I have a headache. Decent for 2oz sample. Would kill a person in 651mL format.

3.6
TheEpeeist (3709) - Media, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 21, 2012
22 oz bottle. Dark brown with coating tan foam. Nose is raisin, toffee, plywood, wild grapes and alcohol. Almost full body with a tingle. Not as sticky as i expected. Taste is vodka, grass, chocolate and bitter citrus. I was hoping for deep layers of flavor but this came off quite muddled.
