Bottled. New Zealand holiday 2011-12. Old notes. The aroma has caramel, cookie. Clear, dark red-brown coloured with an off-white head. The taste is sweet, caramellic, toasted, has cooky, some citric hoppiness. Light bitter finish. harrymel (1551) - Spokane, Washington, USA - DEC 15, 2013
Pours brown with a sheet of cream foam. Smells of sweet malts, a slight grape, prune smell on the nose, not really becoming of a brown ale. Empty flavor of sweet malt, grape artificial flavor again and some dirt. Very, very thin beer, oddly thin with sharp assertive carbonation. This beer is a huge fail, I can’t believe a brewery is built on this kind of beer.

Brown pour with thick head. Aroma is rye bread toast, at least it seems that way to me. Light malty flavour, the barrel doesn’t smack you in the face, ek se. Sweetish finish. thorongil2 (3370) - , Ontario, CANADA - SEP 24, 2012
(tap) clear brown colour with a small brown head; faint aroma of stewed fruit; light smokey and fruity flavour, watery palate; bit strange, not bad Gr0ve (2176) - Oslo, NORWAY - APR 7, 2012
Black and red with brown hues. Slightly oxidized notes. Light roasted malts, but only a little. Medium bodied. Fairly clean with light hops. Reminds me a little of a schwartzbier.

Very kosher tasting beer. Quick fermentation, almost like the yeast took three days to rise. Dark amber color, just like the messiah. Syzzer (647) - Oregon, USA - FEB 7, 2012
Good brown, not great. It has a medium body but there is no solid lingering flavor. hivemind (919) - New York, New York, USA - DEC 29, 2011
Draft at Taproom 307 with Andy, James, Streets, Annie. Pours dark with a dark red hue. Thin mouthfeel with great flavors of slightly-sour red fruits and charred wood. Kind of a graceful blend of a sour/fruit beer and a stout. Great balance and not much booze on the palate. This was brewed with care and expertise. On tap at taproom307. Ultra delicate brew, bourbon tang, vanilla, soft orange and crisp peppercorn/rye in finish. Slipstream (2678) - USA - DEC 20, 2011
First rating of this! On draft at Tap Room No. 307. A lightly smoky, dry ale - malty with a dash of esters - not too intense. Not sure what it was aged in, but it did not seem to have a powerful effect on the brew. It may have mellowed it a bit. Good, but not a superior barrel-aged effort.
