3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A hearty brown color with a thin off-white head. Aromas are malty caramel, with a spicy nut smell. Like a toasted hazelnut almost. Taste is caramel forward, with more pronounced toasted nut flavor in the back, balanced by a light hop bitterness. Finish is still mostly caramel. Not bad.
12floz bottle, no date, $1.75, nonic glass. This beer appears alright: dark brown with clarity and a steady head. Smell isn't skunky, but I detect unwanted age, fungified cereal grains comes to mind. Although ipast it's time, it tastes okay. It is weaker than I remember when I had this about ten years ago (fresh and contract brewed by Southern Tier (I think that is who they contracted with)). Not at all bad as is, because it seems to get a little better with acclimation. In summary, it fairly sessionable and tastes like lightly sweetened dirt. 12 ounce bottle. Mahogany brown color topped by a small bubbly tan head that disapates quickly. Rich roasted malt aroma. Flavor has roasted maltiness with notes of nuts and burnt sugar. Slightly thin body. Light citrus hops in finish. tfontana (1185) - Fremont, New Hampshire, USA - NOV 13, 2016
Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Andover Liquors. Appearance is dark brown with tons of effervescent sparkle, 2-finger width foamy beige head with good retention and lots of sudsy lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, dark fruit, brown sugar and nuts. Taste is roasted malts, mild dark fruit, caramel, nuts. Palate is medium bodied with creamy, thick texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, this is quite good with a fair amount of complexity. Can’t understand the low ratings based on the one I had. DandyWolfFloyd (1268) - Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 23, 2016
