Special Export lager accentuates the smooth slow-brewed taste of European beer. Using all-American northern barley and northwestern hops, Special Export transforms these ingredients into a fine beer imbued with old world craftsmanship.

Special Exportís founder, Gottlieb Heileman, opted to start his brewery in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, a city claiming pure water and a large population of thirsty Germans to drink beer. In 1858, he built the City Brewery, which is still in operation today, continuing to brew several Pabst Brewing Company products.

Since 2001, contract-brewed for Pabst Brewing (Los Angeles), as Pabst no longer owns a brewery of its own.
Special Export is brewed to be crisp and smooth with a true European taste profile.

This is what I call ípoor manís Heineken.í When all I can afford is a cheap beer it ainít bad when itís fresh, but too often it is stale and nasty.

Aroma and flavor is malts/pale malts, mild fruit and mix of slight tartness and bread/grainy in the finish.

Cut and paste all these mass produced beers would have a hard time telling any of them apart

Holy Moly, I have also neglected to rate Special Ex?
Pours a pretty pale golden with a nice well retained medium sized head and plenty of lacing on the glass.

The aroma is faint, a little soapy... a little yeasty... a touch sweet, certainly some graininess. Itís less offensive than the typical industrial lager, even fairly "clean" I might say.

This one is certainly different than the typical pale lager, seems pretty focused on sweet maltiness, itís not got much adjunct character, the hops are spicy and herbal... obviously thereís not a lot of them in there. Thereís a weird apple skin thing happening in there as well.

I wouldnít turn one down... thatís for sure.

Special Export from Milwaukee, Wi, lol. $5.49 for a six pack of 16oz cans. Figured what the heck I can rate one and have others in the fridge for those late nights you want a beer or during a game, but donít need a 2-3$ craft beer. Itís not offensive, very slight light fruit on nose, no real bad aftertaste like some adjuncts, really not too bad for what it is and the price.

TXBadger (2811) - Dallas, Texas, USA - AUG 17, 2014
Pours a clear light golden color with white head. Cereal grains mainly on the palate. Finishes dirty.

Headbanger (3992) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - APR 18, 2014
12oz bottle (Old Notes)-Pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma of skunk, grains, and malt. Taste of the same. This light bodied brew is just another in the line of pale lagers.

GABF 2013. Poured out of a fucken can a clear light golden appearance with a thin white head. Twangy, lemon corny aroma. Moderately watery, a bit sweet, fizzy, grassy flavor. Not horrible but certainly not as good as some of the other Pabst products.

Can. Pretty much PBR. Rather unpleasant. Not many redeeming characteristics. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

troopie (2323) - Munchen an der Willamette, Oregon, USA - JUL 7, 2013
