Hardly a step up from American macrobrews in taste, but will cost you much more. If you want this taste, stick with Original Coors or Miller High Life - theyre cheaper.

ok, ok its skunky. But it still has great flavor after a few gulps. Absolutely superior to any domestic Lager. The keg can is genious marketing.

UPDATED: SEP 9, 2005 This beer possesses the "skunk" aroma common to lagers of many mid-northern European countries. The clear difference is that that element also dominates the _taste_ of this beer perhaps more than any other. Heineken scores a minor positive for some pronounced hop bitterness. However, with all the choices out there I think Ill avoid these well-known green glass bottles. Maybe if I visit Holland Ill give it a try, since Ive heard that "its so much better over there". As it stands, even with the skunk this has been many an Americans first sample of "higher quality beer" and as such even the skunk might taste good in comparison to the typical American swill!

Run of the mill. Grassy and slightly skunky. Better than American macros when no other choice is available.

UPDATED: MAY 6, 2004 Even out a vending machine, in Holland this beer is indeed a different brew to the insipid muck available elsewhere. The bottled variety is even better. It's a refreshing beer that, even when chilled cold, has a hint of citrus in it. Better lagers, for sure, but not bad at 4 in the morning when the vending machine runs out of coke

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2016 Bottle/Can. Fruity, slight floral barley malt aroma. Golden color with large head. Mildly sweet creamy barley malt and mildly bitter hay flavor. A much better beer when you get it fresh in the Netherlands versus the usual light-struck American version. Really a nice light beer in its home country. / 11-20-16 - Mexico City Edition - Mildly skunked but otherwise the same - wonder if they did that on purpose?

This beer tastes skunk from the get go. It's watered down and overpriced. Waste of time.

It taste decent when chilled and iced correctly, but this beer WILL skunk up FAST if not properly refrigerated. And when that happens, it is the wrost of the skunk down to the smell!! better than Bud, Miller, or Coors tho.

In the great realm of beers, Heineken isn't even near the tops. But I will say this. If I'm at a bar with no microbrews, 9 out of 10 times I'll order a heineken. Why? Because it's better than bud or any of the other watered down American bigs. I like it as a solid choice. But a couple of notes: This beer smells like ass, unlike it's taste. If the temperature is changed too much with Heineken it will skunk faster and worse than you can ever imagine. And skunked Heineken is probably the worst things in the world.
