Well this is the stereotypical Euro-macro-lager, and IMHO probably the least enjoyable of the Becks/ Stella Artois/ Peroni/ Sagres pale lager variety. Aroma was strawish or grassy with some sweetness, but mostly bland. Average pale gold color with some head and lacing. The taste struck me as artificially sweet with just maybe a hint of hops. It did have something of a bitter finish that was refreshing, but then left behind an unpleasant straw aftertaste. I usually am more open to European macros over American macros, but there isn’t much that makes drinking this beer worthwhile. But if you’re relying on brand name instead of taste - as the late Freddie Heineken once said "life is all about advertising" - what can you expect from such a beer?

On tap at Het Paleis, Schiphol. Pours clear golden with small white head. Aroma of DMS, light bread, sulphur, flowers. Taste sweet with a little bitterness. Thin to medium bodied.

Pours pale yellow with white head. Aroma is distinct straw and bitter hops. Taste is a again dominated bit bitter hops, but this is only there for the start and doesn’t go into the finish. The bitterness is rather odd somehow. has some wellrounded sweetness into the finish.

Light caramel, hay and celery aromas. Slightly sweet with a touch of bitterness. Thin and light mouthfeel. OK if there is nothing else available. This beer was a big deal back in the day.

Perfectly average. I’m not a fan of this beer but I find always as salvation at the airports while returning from exotic lands. (understand out of Europe, and Malta)

Netherlands version is rated here. Hungarian version is garbage for 0.2. Pretty color, foam disappear fast, good smell. It is good, but not fantastic beer.

Great appearance, great taste and great aroma for this quality classic Dutch beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Scipio (1042) - Palatine, Illinois, USA - MAY 29, 2017
One of those that I should have already rated. Pours a clear, light golden with a medium white head. Floral and beady, the aroma can’t escape some very noticeable heavy grainy elements. A little skunky as well. The taste has a very subtle sweetness. Its very floral, but the graininess remains. Bread, corn, and a slight cereal, there isn’t really much else. Short floral aftertaste. Body is light, texture is thin, and average carbonation. This wasn’t horrible. But it wasn’t all that long ago when this was considered a premium beer. Now it barely qualifies as drinkable.
