4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
750ml bottle, drunk at home, 13th Nov 2010. Clear golden amber with a small white head. Dusty hops on nose, soft citrus underneath. In the mouth, sweet honey, golden syrup, oranges backed by controlled, subtle alcoholic warmth. There’s a little bit of gooseberry at the back of the throat. Utterly sublime palate.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
December 2006 (from BA): This lovely beer was bought at ’Boozers’, a warehouse just off the motorway near Calais. At 1.89 Euro’s for a corked, caged brown 75cl bottle, I wish I had filled my car boot with it.
Lot 1 of 02/06, best before April 08.
This is one of the best non-British beers I have ever had.
It is really a ’Blonde des Flandres’ according to the bottle, but it is an ’ambre blonde’ more than a ’blonde blonde’ if you catch my drift.
I poured it into two Duvel glasses, the second glass getting the sediment, so I could compare each against the other.
Strong aroma of yeast from both glasses, cloudy and amber in colour, the second glass obviously darker because of the sediment. Malt and hops also appeared within the aroma, all very pleasant.
The large white/off-white head stayed throughout the session, the Duvel glasses help of course, but I think the head had a good retension anyway.
The taste was super, a yeasty, vanilla, cum malty hop flavbour all combined to give a fantastic mouthfeel and drinkability.
If I ever come across this beer again, I shall go ’Bansi’ on it.
The only poor score from me is the cloudyness, I know it doesn’t matter really, but my eye’s tell me so much about life, and a cloudy beer has, for my eyes always flaged ’bad beer’, it’s a British cask ale thing!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle that I picked up from Carrefour, Calais. Consumed at Campsite in Guines, France 12-06-09. This had been merrily jiggling about in the camper on the way down to the campsite, chilled for a little while in the fridge and then opened without me even considering that it had been shaken about a little. The cork shot out of this before I had even finished removing the wire cage, it was like a bullet and hit the underside of the awning and ricocheted off, very exciting. The beer actually poured great, it was a little lively but not too bad, pouring hazy orange with a white head, it looked great in fact. There was a lilting lemony nose and there was no denying a rusticyness about this. Some orchard like aroma’s also show. taste is fresh, lemony, touch sweet and sour, dab of yeast. The alcohol warms me ever so slightly, its lovely and very simple. A7 A5 F8 P4 Ov15 3.9

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
75 cl bottle at home. Not decanted, so gradually more hazy down the bottle but yellow in colour with a pillowy white head. Very nice aroma of yeast, grain and perfumed hop. I am reminded of lavender, the aroma is so floral. Sweet on the tongue, then some balancing dryness. Slightly syrupy, but with a really nice sherbety, effervescent feel on the tongue. This is a very nice beer, and one I would seek again.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
75cl bottle from Traditions en Nord in Cassel, taken home to Blighty and rested for 3 weeks. A really difficult one to rate. Full of character and likely to wow some people legitimately but a bit sweet, a way off pure malt and oddly lop-sided. Bio I think, which may explain the under-hopping and the bubblegum mulch in the background.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
75cl bottle to myself, from Auchan. Pours a lightly misty gold, large white head. Aroma is sweet Belgian blonde yeast. Taste is straight-up sweetish Belgian blonde, pillowy smooth and very easy-drinking. Nicely balanced, with soft vanilla / banana notes. Nice.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Nose has a faint hint of sour, Belgian yeast, banana, floral, grass. Taste is belgian yeast, fruit, whea, banana, almond, vanilla. There is a lemon and lime hop note which is almost 7up like. Thick mouthfeel. I really enjoyed it.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Golden and biscuit malts, soft herbal bitter and tea aromas from the classic malt hop mix. Vegetable and green apple aromas though too. Odd intended or off flavours? Pretty tasty, classic but appealing to me. Good big bubble. Subjectively perhaps flawed, but I dig it. (75cl bottle from Saveur Bière)
