At the Bad Staffelstein bierfest, 15 August 2014. Copper coloured, with a decent, off-white, head. Sweet, with plenty of caramel and some berry fruits, before a decent, bitter finish. Good. 3fourths (9367) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 12, 2014
Draft at the brewery in Wiesen. Cloudy, rich red-brown colored body with a creamy off-white head.

Malt aroma shows notes of bread, caramelized sugar, apple, sweet toffee. Quiet hops show light spiciness. Medium-full body, sweet, syrupy, chewy in the mouth. Not much depth, and the malt character and flavor balance doesn’t align much with my tastes.

On draught at the brewpub (the landlady called it "Dunkel"): Deep golden, unclear, visible carbonation, small beaten-egg-white-like foamy layer, sweetish-caramelly nose with a slight barnyardy touch and mild hoppy traces; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied, not "ungespundet"; slightly lingering bitter-malty finish. Ruby red color, big creamy tanned head, lace. Wheat bread sweetness in the nose. Medium-bodied, malty. Sweetish, ashy, short finish, quite refreshing. Not very typical dunkel (only outlook).
Tapbeer only in this tiny brewpub. Orange colored, just a bit hazy, the beer is not filtered. Hardly any head, malty flavor with a bit of a barnyard smell. Just a bit soapy. Full bodied with a fine hopbitter aftertaste. A treat on a hot humid day.
