From the source at the Hellmuth brewery in Wiesen-Franconia (Germany). Pours an unfiltered orange color, bubbles floating on a very tick off-white cap. Nose: hay, grassy-herbal notes going almost tart-chicory, barley. Pretty fast it changes in a stable aroma, which I adore. Mouth: medium frizzy carbonation, malts, very soft (and neutral) herbal end. The drinking is easy with a watery body, but tasty enough. direttoreag (17) - alassio, ITALY - MAR 24, 2015
On tap @ frankenbierfest at rome limonaia... A very good blonde lager beer with The tipical taste of "franconia". TAR (2761) - Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA - SEP 25, 2014
Draft at the brewery in Aug. 2014: Deep golden in color. Creamy halo surrounds a broken cap of foam. Delightful nose of piecrust, nectar, lemon verbena, bright peach esters, cookie, hay and a hint of minerals. Lush, fluffy and soft carbonation. Richly malty and toasty from the get go, with a remarkably well defined Munich-derived honey-drizzled-biscuit base. Crisp pecan and refined pils malt enhance the mouth-filling maltiness, as does a saliva-inducing punch of melanoidins. Well-integrated orangey fruitiness dovetails with a lemony hop kiss to counterbalance the malty girth. Lemony Spalt hop luster is echoed by a polished zestful bitterness along with a splash of peach puree esters. A marmalade richness results from the soothing hop oils colliding with slick esters, which provide welcome contrast to the dry yet sturdy and multilayered malt succulence. Bright hop burps trail the assertively hoppy finish which is laced with vibrant lemon and wood-root-spice flavors. The brewer has commendably coaxed equal amounts of detail from both the malt and the hops, resulting in a very satisfying kellerbier. Love that Spalt character, which kept me returning to my glass only moments after the previous sip. Great beer.
