Working Man’s Porter an ale of true merit, brewed in the tradition of England’s Industrial Revolution, an age of rough-handed factory workers, a time before the weekend existed. Hearty and truly robust, this Porter’s body is built with complex English brown and black malts, and refined by Brambling Cross hops, which lend notes of herbs and black currants. It pairs well with oysters, shepherd’s pie, and sitting down after a long day. ABV: 5.2% IBU’s 30

Picked up a bomber on a recent trip to Plymouth NH. A pretty basic style to brew. Tasty and robust. Body on the thin side, which would make this good with food.

No frills porter leaning to the more bitter side of the scale. Chocolate and roast with only the faintest hint of sweetness. Yum.

Poured from 12 oz. can. Opaque, dark cola brown with a 2-finger tan head and very good lacing. Aroma of roasted nuts, roasted malt, caramel and roasted nuts. Taste of bitter toasted walnuts, caramel, sweet crude chocolate and roasted malt. The bitter nuts are more than amply offset by the sweet malt flavors. Medium/full body and medium carbonation with nice mouthfeel. The can I drank yesterday had an off taste. Maybe it was my palate, because this can (from the same 6-pack) seems fine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at Block Six, Portsmouth, NH. This came across like homebrew to me -- it was thin, slightly acidic from the dark malts, not terribly roasty, and a bit all over the place. It was perfectly fine as a quaffer, but sub-par.

Near-black pour with frothy tan top. Smells of chocolate and rich malt. Both come through in flavor with some spice and roast. This finishes fairly clean, but a little dry. Slightly more carbonation than I’d like. Pretty decent overall.

This was poured into an English pint glass. The appearance was a nice looking dark brown close to black color with a one finger off white to tan foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds. Messy lacing tries to cling but slides into the beer. The smell had a nice sweet blend of sticky cocoa, rich dark fruits, some light coffee and a delicate amount of robust spices. The taste was mainly sweet with a nice rich robust roastiness sticking to my tongue and leveling out to a nice smooth fruity to robust to sweet coffee aftertaste. There’s a quick little rich sweet fruity roasty finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs nice and smooth. Low penetration of bitterness definitely shows its an English Porter. Overall, for me it’s good. Pretty sure I’d have again. For the style, it’s right up there as a well done English Porter.

Pours a dull burnt umber color with a finger of khaki foam, Nose is roasty with underlying cocoa and burnt spent coffee. Palate follows with good roasted malt throughout and layers of bakers cocoa, some chewy grain and a lingering bitterness. Good carbonation and a classic porter.

Pours black with a tan head. Nose is robust malts, with hints of chocolate and coffee. Taste is on the bitter side, like a rich dark chocolate. Full body. Moderate carbonation. Good brew.
