An American Pale Lager, Henry Weinhard’s Private Reserve blends Henry’s German heritage with the natural ingredients of the Pacific Northwest. If you want to impress your friends, you can say it’s brewed with 100% Cascade hops specially grown in Oregon. But all you really need to know is that it’s crisp, clean and one helluva beer.

Finger of head, clear, light straw color with lots of bubbles. Smells nice with apple and pear predominating. Sweet beginning taste, a little pear, medium bitterness from the middle on, short finish. Normal light and crisp texture with moderate carbonation. Overall a pretty good example for the style.

Bill Becker (2009) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - OCT 20, 2017
From Apr 2007 This one pours from 12oz bottlea clear light gold with a large head of foam that hangs around quite nicely and has some nice sticky lacing. The smell has a hoppy nose to with a touch of malt....typical of the style. The taste has a slight lemony hop flavour up front with some sweet malt in the background and finishes crisp and dry. A good thirst quencher is what it is and that's not a bad thing at all.

From old tasting notes. Light yellow gold color. Bubbly white head. Mildly assertive hops in the bouquet. crisp, light, dry hops are nicely balanced by a firm malty backbone.

12oz Flasche. Helles Gelb, flacher Schaum. Süffig aber langweilig. Industriebier, dass auf Microbrew und Tradition macht.

This one is pretty bland. A bit of maltiness, some grain, no notable hops flavors at all. Tastes mostly like water. Full disclosure: I just drank two tripels and ate some Indian food, so my palate isn’t in the best state. Still, this is a boring beer that I wouldn’t buy. Still better than Coors Light.

12 oz bottle on the bank of the McKenzie River (Oregon). No date or ABV found. Clear golden body with excellent clarity and a fine head that leaves patterned lacing. Medium plus carbonation and medium-light body. Bready aroma with a touch bolder flavor than average for style.

Popoff91 (124) - Oregon, USA - MAR 23, 2016
UPDATED: APR 5, 2016 $5.97 for a six-pack of 12-ounce bottles, poured into pilsner glass. Not as good as Pilsner Urquell, but for the price it is a pretty decent pale lager.

Syzzer (736) - Oregon, USA - JUL 12, 2015
General rating is 3.9. It is alright, easy to drink. The Cascade hops are not pronounced well, especially after production moved from Hood River, Oregon to Irwindale, CA in late 90’s. Light, pretty crisp. Clear, moderately carbonated. 3.9 BD

"this is a miller product. that explains a lot, being that it’s usually found in the micro section. better than all of the products with miller on the label, but not all that good."

Transfer from BA review on 11-12-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a straw color with a one finger fizzy white head. The head fades very rapidly, leaving only a thin level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass and a bit of foam on the surface of the brew. Smell – The aroma is mainly of a grainy nature mixed with some smells of a caramel and corn sweetness. Along with these smalls are some lighter notes of a grassy and herbal nature as well as just a hint of a lemon citrus smell. Taste –The taste begins with a rather bready flavor mixed with some lighter caramel and corn tastes. The taste upfront is rather smooth and refreshing remaining that way much throughout the taste. A bit of a grainy and grassy flavor comes to the tongue more toward the middle to the end of the taste, but yet still melds well with the other flavors, maintaining a rather smooth taste. In the end, a light level of an earthy and herbal flavor come to the tongue, along with a slight increase in the sweet flavors of corn and caramel, to leave a somewhat sweeter, but rather pleasant and still crisp flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on thinner side with a carbonation level that is rather average. Both are good for the lighter tastes and somewhat sweeter flavors of the brew making this a rather easy drinking beer. Overall – A decent brew at a reasonable price. Quite easy drinking and flavorful in the sweeter department with a rather easy drinking taste making for a decent session/ social drinking brew.

Sweet, lightly toasty malt aroma. A hint of citrus, and a little dusty. Light caramel/sweet malt aroma, with bread crust/biscuit. Citrus, subtle sulfur/vegetable lager yeast. Sweeter in the finish.
