COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally developed for British sailors stationed in India, IPAs were aggressively hopped to help prevent spoilage on long ocean voyages. Now that spoilage isn’t as big a problem, we’ve eased up on the hoppiness just a hair to let the caramel malts shine through. It’s a big beer with big flavor that really lets you appreciate hops in all their glory.

12oz bottle that someone left in my fridge. Pours a crystal clear pale golden colored body with a finger-width, fizzy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a light lacing. Aroma is lighter with some hints of citrus pines and a lightly sweetened, somewhat bready caramel. Flavor is similar. A thinner, somewhat bready, lightly sweetened caramel malt backing with a light citrusy hopping. Finishes dry and clean with a light pine resin bitterness before leaving a medium length aftertaste. Light body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, an inoffensive, but fairly boring and straightforward IPA. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, but there is absolutely nothing remarkable about it either. Eh...

FROTHINGSLOSH (7929) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 15, 2012
Sampled on draft at the Rivertowne Pub this beer poured a dark amber color with a medium sized foamy beige head that left decent lacing. The aroma was faintly bitter with light pine and grapefruit. The flavor was tangy and bitter with notes of lemon, pine-sol, Windex, perfume, musk and an off presence. Long bitter finish of Pine Sol, Windex and perfume. Medium body. Not good.

mansquito (6695) - Nueva York, New York, USA - DEC 9, 2012
Whole Foods, Bowery 12oz ($2): Pours clear light amber with a medium thick head. Aroma is light malts and barely much in the way of hops. Taste is pretty light and weak. There is some bitterness.Aftertaste is somewhat astringent and some nondescript hops. Tastes like a mediocre ESB.

Clear copper color with a very short white head. Large bubbles and not really any bubbles floating to the top. Does not seem well carbonated to me. Head fades fast almost instantly. Aroma is slightly skunky, evergreen. Taste is bitter but nothing special here to back it up. Finishes clean. I am not getting any huge hop flavor here. Drinkable.

12 oz bottle from my neighbor Bob - thanks! Weak first impressions and a serious lack of body. Could have been much better.

Henry Weinhard’s Woodland Pass IPA has a thick, soapy, cream-colored head and a hazy (which gets more hazy upon swishing the bottle), bubbly, orange appearance. Lacing is quite pronounced. The aroma is of bread, bread crust, and hop oil, and the flavor is sweet, bready, and has a mild hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Henry Weinhard’s Woodland Pass IPA finishes semi-dry, mellow, and quite drinkable. Overall, this is a very good beer. RJT

Bottle--aroma was a bit off and didn’t have much hops. The flavor was in the same neighborhood, mostly malts and biscuits, no real hop flavor or bite. Ehhh. Produce place, 1.49

Bottled. Poured clear, bright golden with a short white head. The aroma picked up sweet honey and caramel malts with just a little resiny pine and citrus hops coming through.. quite malty and not that interesting. The flavor found sweet caramel and biscuity malts at the core, with fruity hops joining spicy pine and earthy notes around.. more peppery on the finish. Light-medium bodied and spicy on the palate with some prickly carbonation.. a tad metallic on the middle and back.. overall an OK brew.
