COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally developed for British sailors stationed in India, IPAs were aggressively hopped to help prevent spoilage on long ocean voyages. Now that spoilage isn’t as big a problem, we’ve eased up on the hoppiness just a hair to let the caramel malts shine through. It’s a big beer with big flavor that really lets you appreciate hops in all their glory.

Bottle. Pours a clear orange gold with a frothy white head leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is floral hops and pine. Thin mouthfeel with sweet hop and honey with light bitter finish.

Pint glass, nice finger and half of foamy head. Transparent copper colored body. Almost smells like lemon and pine, so faint though. A little bitter taste upfront, quickly dies off though. Nothing else. Crisp texture, moderation carbonation and medium body. Well, it’s brewed under contract in Hood River, Oregon but there’s no fooling it’s a product of SABMiller, though one of the better tasting ones.

Pours clear gold with a medium white head. Aroma has a lemony note...touch of grass...hint of caramel. Flavor has some earthy/grassy notes, a bit of caramel. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is dry and earthy/bitter. Not good.

Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 10/26/12

Aroma: It is kind of sweet and malty, with caramel, sugar, and an underlying earth hop notes
Appearance: It pours an clear orange color with a small white head and drippy lace
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet with some metallic notes, and a little bit of hop bitterness
Palate: The body is fairly light, it feels a little fizzy and a little metallic, with a mildly dry finish
Overall Impression: This one isn’t impressive, and it probably isn’t even an IPA, but it isn’t a bad beer. Still though, I can’t really imagine too many situations in which I would purposely choose this one again.

2.8
Brouwerij (959) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - OCT 26, 2012
UPDATED: OCT 28, 2012 Poured into standard pint glass. Pours a clear, golden color. Two finger white head after a hard pour, dissipates to a rocky white cap after a few minutes. Decent lacing. Floral and mild citrus smell, you can detect the cascade hops. Relatively mild hop profile. A bit of maltiness. Mildly bitter finish that lingers for a bit. Medium body and good carbonation. Overall, a decent IPA, not particularly strong or hoppy. A drinkable IPA that probably won’t satisfy hop heads.
