COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Marked by a distinctive malty flavor from the malt components in the blend, Cleary Red is a darker ale that even pale ale-beer drinkers will find extremely palatable.

deyholla (12439) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - MAY 26, 2017
Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear deep amber with a near white head that dissipates nearly completely. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grain with bread and a hint of light fruit backing. Flavor combines sweet grains, light fruit and a hint of butterscotch.

Drake (14078) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 13, 2017
Keg at the brewpub. Clear copper, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of toffee, earth, a bit of cherry. Taste is earth, caramel, cherry, raisin, hints of butter. Thin, moderate to high carbonation. 500th Michigan rating.

Strykzone (7713) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUL 19, 2012
Sampled at the brewpub. Quite hazy brown with a decent beige head. This is rich and malty and has something I canmot identify but makes this distinct and tadty. It is roasted and smoked but is not peat. Caramel is also tasted. Thos is superior to most and more interesting.

Bullit (4719) - Buffalo, New York, USA - JUN 20, 2010
Draft @ Hereford & Hops brewpub. Clear amber colour, off-white thin head. Aroma of caramel malts, nutty. Flavour is caramel malts, nutty and slightly hoppy. Slightly bitter finish.

A- Transparent medium red/brown body with thin white head. Head fades rather quickly and leaves behind little lacing in the glass.

S- Light nose of caramel malt and hops.

T- Caramel malt taste upfront. Finish is mostly caramel malt but has a slightly aggressive bitter character to it due to the hops. Caramel malt sweetness lingers.

P- Medium carbonation and thin-somewhat watery body. I like my Irish reds with with a nice smooth creamy body and this one just doesn’t have it.

O- Its very easy to drink and somewhat enjoyable. I will probably get again next time I am at H&H-but I wouldn’t get it anywhere else.

draft, chilled glass. body is slightly hazy auburn with slim head and excellent lacing. flavor is the same strawberry lifesavers note that apparently has infected the entire brewhouse. some fleeting caramel. light but pleasant caramel aroma. medium mouthfeel is worth a gold medal from this place.

auerbrau (3206) - Ithaca, New York, USA - MAY 28, 2008
On tap at the Escanaba brewpub. Crystal clear deep red amber, with a rim of white above. No aroma. I can’t pull anything

off. Flavor. This is boring. A meaty, chewy old malt flavor climbs out of this one. Too much

crystal, too much meat. No real malt intricacy and no hops to balance this off. Some

too-warm yeast esters kick off a bit of gross twinge to the finish of the beer. Not entirely

clean.

Crap was this bad. If this was in a bottle it would have been a drainpour. Nothing stood out with this beer. I literally put my beak into the liquid and inhaled and couldn’t pick up an aroma. The pour was a flat bubbleless orange with no head. Taste was weak and unexciting. I could taste a hint of biscuit and light malt with an earthiness to it, but it was so diluted I had to dig deep to pull that out of it. Terrible.

Pours a deep red / amber with an off-white head. I got a decent amount of fruitness and caramel in the aroma. A lot of sweetness of caramel with just a touch of hops to balance it out. Finished really dry, as with most beers from this place.
