Gramarye is the practice of learning magic. For thousands of years, people have used a grimoire (book of magic) to cast spells and summon spirits. Of course, magic fell out of favor over the centuries, the same as brewing with rye. Interest in magic seems to be on the upswing these days, and so is the interest in brewing with rye. A coincidence? This is our take on session pale ale made with a dose of rye malt to give it that luscious feel and snappy finish. We think it is magical.

Mother Kelly’s. Keg. Clear amber beer, small cream coluur head. Palate is light, semi dry and has mild crispness. Very light malts, some rye spice and very mild sweetness. Mild floralness. Mild marmalade and a whisper of fresher orange. Light finish. Okay.

Keg at Mother Kellys, 30/09/15.
Clear golden amber with a decent light beige covering.
Nose is caramel malt, rye bread, grain, light spice, bitter orange, earthy hop dusting.
Taste is caramel malt forward, light pine, orange pith, straw.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with earthy hop bitterness.
Decent enough sessioner.

Bottle, 22oz. A hazy, dark golden to amber beer with a two-finger, off-white head leaving some curtains. The aroma feels a little bit one-dimensional hop pellets-like piney. Some citrus peel and maltyness escapes the glass too though. It’s a bit thin on the palate, with a very soft carbonation. Pine cones, citrus peel and some sweetness, and of course, a nice bitterness in the flavor. Lasting bitterness, but the rest of the flavor fades quickly. Considering the ABV, it’s certainly a nice one, else it’s a bit boring. 130808

Bomber from Corti Bros. Pours very ruddy copper with a slight beige head. Nose is nicely rye with some fruit and citrus. Near med body. Flavor is definitely rye spice with some pale pitted fruit and citrus. It’s very tasty for a low ABV ale.

Bomber poured a clear orange amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of rye, carmel, orange, pink grapefruit and pine. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of rye, grapefruit, pine, light carmel and a hint of earthiness with a crisp dry bitter lingering rye finish.

Bottle shared by beerpig317. Poured clear dark golden color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate citrus hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium citrus bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.

Light and session able. Not a ton of depth but light malt and hops with some spicy rye. Would be a quality spring or summer seasonal.
