Very old 22 oz. bottle dated 4/16/12. Aroma is delicious - vanilla and chocolate with some dark fruit/raisin notes. Appears pitch black but brilliantly clear with ruby/garnet highlights at the edge of the glass. Head retention is nonexistent (Ive had this beer three times now, always the same) and dissipates like I just poured a coca-cola. Taste is as promised by the aroma and is very nicely balanced. A very broad and complex palate of toasty/chocolate flavors mingle with vanilla/fruity/caramelized flavors. This is possibly the maltiest tasting porter Ive had (which is sort of how this porter makes its mark on the style). The mouthfeel is medium to full with the appropriate balance of carbonation - its satisfyingly malty and sweet but not cloying. Overall this is an excellent robust porter that is certainly one of the best bottled porters you can buy. It would be nice to find a fresh one for comparison, but this beer seems to hold up to aging very well.
