Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is a nice mix of chocolate and roasty malts. Flavor is again heavy on the chocolate malt with some roast and char. Finish leaves a nice anise and a bitter baking chocolate on the tongue. No real hop presence and also no alcohol presence. I’ve had some so-so beers from this brewer but this is pretty solid. boyntonliquors (24) - San Jose, California, USA - DEC 13, 2013
Aroma is one of beer’s most complex features. Aroma is propelled by lively CO2 and dampened by pillowy heads - especially nitrogen foam. Click on a term below to add it to your tasting notes.

Poured a deep, thick molasses color in my tulip. Lots of dark roast and chocolate come through right away. The roast follows through the palate as does the bitterness. Some black licorice also comes through. I enjoy this! It would be awesome to cellar and come back to in a year!

Black pour with a khaki head. It has nice coffee and chocolate flavors. A little lighter bodied than expected. Headbanger (4020) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - AUG 16, 2013
16.9 oz bottle 8/16/13 (Binny’s Naperville)-46° in Snifter-Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and malt. Taste of the same with more chocolate and coffee. This full bodied brew is lighter than I would expect but it is still not shabby. EtTuCthulhu (1391) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - JUL 1, 2013
The appearance of this beer fuses a pure opaque black color with a large tan head, and the aroma is very indulgent with currents of chocolate, roasted malts, booze, and sugar in the raw. The taste is mildly umami, slightly bitter, and slightly sweet, and the mouthfeel combines an thick, oily texture, medium body, dry finish, and a soft carbonation. For me, this beer is very similar to Irish stouts while still being able to bring a bitter undertone to the whole beer without it totally being ruined, which is nice to see. wlajwl (7010) - Quad Cities, Iowa, USA - APR 24, 2013
Aroma is dark malts, caramel, dark fruit and a slight mustiness. The flavor is chocolate, coffee, caramel sweetness, mild vinous notes and a dry and bitter finish. wchesser (2121) - Denver, Colorado, USA - APR 16, 2013
Bottle on a mid-April blizzard night. Dark roast malt and burnt espresso nose. Dark roast coffee and malt flavor with a pretty bitter finish. Not a lot going on, but nothing to complain about. Opaque and medium body.
