Aroma is one of beer’s most complex features. Aroma is propelled by lively CO2 and dampened by pillowy heads - especially nitrogen foam. Click on a term below to add it to your tasting notes.

500 ml bottle from BevMo Salinas. Nose of chocolate, coffee, prunes, and a pumpernickel bready note. Pitch black as night (virtually no color along the edges) with a small cinnamon tan head. Flavor has lots of bitter chocolate, coffee, and hints of black molasses. Excellent stuff, one of the best non BA impys I’ve had. madchemist83 (272) - USA - MAR 19, 2016
Bottle. Pours pitch black with tan head. Chocolate, coffee, caramel, burnt sugar in the aroma. Smooth coffee taste with clear finish. Excellent stout. wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - DEC 10, 2010
nice black pour that is a nice shade of ruby red on a thin edge; 3-4mm dark brown variegated head. the aroma is big and roasty, smores, lots of chocolate, marshmallow, coffee, and a bitter backbone of hops and burnt malt with some sweet biscuit notes. the taste is similar, a good punch of hops, melds well with the malts but doesn’t steal the show. more dark fruits come out, raisins, figs, some prune tartness, a good bit of tarry smoke, and still some sweet bready notes to balance. the palate is full, silky and creamy, leaving a tasty oily coating. great beer overall, and an excellent value for $5-6. its very drinkable, and should be interesting to age. ads135 (4923) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - MAR 9, 2013
This is a very good stout. Potent and sweet with a roasty bitterness that’s fairly aggressive. Picked this bottle up in KC with Dave and Jess in 2012.

The appearance of this beer fuses a pure opaque black color with a large tan head, and the aroma is very indulgent with currents of chocolate, roasted malts, booze, and sugar in the raw. The taste is mildly umami, slightly bitter, and slightly sweet, and the mouthfeel combines an thick, oily texture, medium body, dry finish, and a soft carbonation. For me, this beer is very similar to Irish stouts while still being able to bring a bitter undertone to the whole beer without it totally being ruined, which is nice to see. Bottle at ash’s. Pours black, nose is chocolate, coffee, liquorice, brown sugar, taste is similar, roasted malts, a little bit thin. RedSox2004 (1961) - Pacific Palisades, California, USA - JAN 21, 2011
Pours deep black with a thin brown head that dissipated quickly to almost nothing but leaves moderate lace. Strong espresso notes on the nose, supported by ample chocolate and roasted malts. Big bold flavors featuring the aforementioned espresso and semi-sweet dark chocolate (that are outstanding) with dashes of dark cherry, brown sugar, and a surprising amount of piney, almost resinous, hops bitterness. Full bodied, no carbonation, silky smooth mouthfeel, and a bittersweet chocolate finish. A pleasant surprise indeed. Pinball (12234) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - FEB 24, 2011
