The other beer I tried from these folks (Hoptopia) was undrinkable, so by that measure this beer is a success. It’s drinkable.
It has a little more sweetness than I prefer in my IPAs, and it pours a little darker than I typically expect from the west coast IPAs I favor, but the finish is on the short side (that’s good), and it goes well with food. I tried it with some Korean-style kalbi (marinated, grilled ribs) and spaghetti.
Kind of pricey; I’d like it a lot more if it sold for $1.50 less.
On 06/18/2011. Clear copper amber body with a small frothy white head. Sweet amarillo and caramel aroma. Sweet amarillo, fruit and light grassy pale malt flavor. Medium body with moderate carbonation. hayduke (5209) - Eureka, California, USA - JUN 25, 2012
Shared with Strykzone via Facebook Chat. Pours dark clear copper color with a creamy beige head and good lacing. Nose is citrus with some tangerine. Body is medium, and mouthfeel sticky. Flavor is roasted malt with citrus and floral hops. The finish is long and bitter. Decent for a single-hop brew. Strykzone (7362) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUN 25, 2012
Bomber from Hayduke. We shared a bottle via facebook chat. This beer sported a nice beige head that faded into rocks. It left a sticky lacing. The beer was hazy and effervescent burnt orange. A nice aroma of tangerine and caramel. The flavor does not quite live up to what the aroma teased. It is bitter and citrus fruit. Tangerine, again. It had an interesting feel and was just a bit fizzy. This would make a good bittering and aromatic hop but was just a little thin on the flavor. Like all single hop beers, this made for good research. IrishBoy (4200) - Bakersfield, California, USA - MAR 20, 2012
Bomber from Bevmo Salinas. Nose is citrus, caramel, and a hint of bubblegum. Interesting nose. Clear copper with a medium, lightly lacing, beige head. Flavor is bitter with some light, contrasting sweetness. The hint of malty bubblegum comes through all the way into the bitter finish. My favorite of their 4 single hop brews. better than the admiral! pours copper and has a malty aroma. Taste earthy and finishes bitter.

Bottle; poured an orange amber with a slightly frothy, off white head. Aroma of hay, barnyard, earth and bread. Flavor was a touch watery, and not all that great. thetmaxx (917) - West Sacramento, California, USA - DEC 9, 2011
Poured into a shaker. I really thought Amarillo would be the best of these. Its OK, but none of these single hop beers were amazing. I’m thinking the base malt recipe is not so great. Citrus aroma and flavor. Flavor is pretty clean though, and palate us light and watery. malrubius (2900) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - NOV 24, 2011
22 ounce from Bev Mo. Copper with ring. Old musty vegetal aroma with hint of citrus and caramel. Toasted sticky vegetal caramel musty fruit with medium nondescript bitterness. Pretty gross. I should have known: if Bev Mo has it on special, it must be way too old. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - SEP 4, 2011
Bomber pours clear copper with light tan head. The aroma is influenced by sugary malts followed by herbally – earthy – spicy hops. Nice. The taste has a pleasing level of bold spicy hops where the earthiness has a slight herbally black tea note with some citrus hop flavors around the edges. This tasty hoppiness is both bitter and flavor and stays pretty much the same into the finish. Good stuff. cbkschubert (2901) - BFE, Arizona, USA - JUN 22, 2011
22 oz. bottle from BevMo - Pours a hazy amber color with a 3/4 finger thick off white head. Very light tiny spot lacing. Aroma is fruity esters, pine hops, and toasted malt. Flavor is much of the same with more malt showing through. Finish is slightly astringent and dry. Medium body. A decent IPA.
