Tap pour. Huge aroma of honey, malts and smoke. No front flavour to the beer but as it sits smoky flavours appear with hints of the honey again.

Bottle share at CBC Islington as ’Herne Tāne’. Many thanks to David. Dark amber orange, still, foamy off-white head, light lacing. Aroma is mostly smoke as advertised, burnt wood. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is bready, smoke, light floral notes, some pepper. A tasty, well-balanced, rounded smoked beer. Good.

Bottle at Craft Islington, thanks to Big Dave. It pours deep amber with an off-white head. The aroma is fresh, bitter - sweet, apricot, peach, marmalade, candied peel, sugars and a touch of smoke. The taste is crisp, bitter, earthy, grassy, smoke, lemon, grapefruit and a touch of alcohol. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Novel stuff.

Faint smokey aroma with a hint of hop richness buried in this golden orange lager. The dominant feature is the smokey taste, which immediately reminded me of a good smoked cheese. It doesn’t overpower the very rounded beer and is a really good effort from a tiny brewer. I probably wouldn’t want a session on this, but that goes for most of my favourite beers

Always been in two minds with smoked pale ale and lagers as they tend to not be balanced. However with this pale ale the smoked characters do not overpower, but more compliment the beer.
