500ml bottle (Beerfox, Riga)
Lovely sweet barley wine aroma, but with a slightly odd winey sharpness, I don’t like sharpness in my BWs. Dates later, much more to my taste, aromawise. Taste rises above the strangeness, goes straight to the raisins, just a touch of blackcurrant. Nice bitterness. Pretty solid barley wine, but I think the barrel has spoilt it. Do I get purple grapes, red wine, in the late finish? Was that the barrel? Interesting, but not romancing me.

Bottle. It pours an unclear, reddish dark brown body under a small, dense, light beige head. Lots of umami meatyness in the aroma, with caramel, toffee and some dried fruits. Treacle hints. It’s full-bodied and rather sweet on the palate, with a very soft carbonation level. Treacle, caramel, dark chocolate, dried fruits and some oxidation. Some alcohol notes in the far back. Pretty lovely this one, sure it can get even better. If someone still has a bottle or two in the cellar, I envy you. 140815

Bottle at KØ10. Vinous and vanilla aroma. Almost clear dark red brown colour. Sweet flavour, some vanilla and cream. Not enough bitterness to balance off the sweetness.
