June 19th, 2013 - Hess’ Loci was our second brew to try at the newly opened North Park location for Hess’ operations. It’s a soupy, orange-yellow beer with healthy lacing on the sides and an opacity that gives it a tomboyish casualness about it. The aroma is muted, and hard to glean, but still there are tiny arpeggio notes of light roasted peanuts, flowers and some candied orange slices. No rye as far as my nose can see. The flavor is mild too, and again, slightly nutty with an outline of hops to the flavor, but no rye. I don’t think that’s a demerit, but I am curious. Was the rye lost in the complexities of the brewing process? Or was just enough used to mask one taste and reveal another? On tap at The Daily Pint. Reddish orange with a slight haze, two-finger cream colored head that retained will and left outstanding lace. Aromas of spicy rye, modest floral hops, a bit of citrus and caramel. Flavor is mostly citrus with a strong rye malt presence that lends an offsetting sweetness. Cask at Great British Beer Festival 2014, Olympia, London. This one was with mango and serrano peppers so maybe it should under a new beer. An amber coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Green chilli, pepper aroma. Tastes similar, peppers, chilli, slightly fruity and spicy. More like something from pizza hut! A fun beer to try nevertheless. UPDATED: AUG 25, 2014 Served on cask gravity dispense at GBBF 2014, included in the title ’with mango and serrano peppers. Not sure if this should be a new listing. Golden amber, oily looking in the glass, white head, nice lacing on the glass. Nose is… wow. Vegetal pepper or green chilli, green cactus plant, green pepper, some pine. Really exciting nose! Taste is grain, citrous, fruity, but with a big kick of green chilli and vegetal pepper. Sending a warm fug up the back of my neck from the green peppers. On tap @ BT’s Southern BBQ. Amber pour with a thick off-white head. Grapefruit, light pine, and orange on the nose. Hints of melon, bread, and mango. Pretty nice aroma. Flavor is melon, grapefruit, and pine hops. Nice bitterness, some sweet caramel malt, and orange. Good citric hoppiness and some bitter citrus peel. Solid.

On tap. Hazy orange with a thin creamy white head. Caramel, rye bread, cereal grain, and grapefruit aroma. Creamy full bodied palate. Bitter earthy toffee, rye bread, and hop resin taste.
