3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
This Hess beer was growlered up at Huss in Tempe, AZ. It pours with a clear deep copper body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up a good load of sweet fruity esters where I’m getting things such as prunes and raisins mixed with a dash of banana. Behind the fruitiness is a bit of roasted malts and a sweet maltiness. The taste is up front sweet with prunes and raisin like fruity esters. To midway mild notes of roasted malts and sweetened rye bread as well as a sort of vague spicy hoppiness come to the surface. This is a bit too sweet for me. Nice body though.
On tap: The aroma consists of banana, raisins, light apple, and a hint of roast. It’s transparent dark amber with a small off-white head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring around. There is some spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with caramel, raisin, and banana. The finish has light citrus roast, and a touch of rye. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel.
