Its high gravity (O.G. 1080-85) combines the warmth of wine and the freshness of beer. Gouden Carolus is one of the strongest and most exciting beers in the world. After lengthy maturing and conditioning, it is bottled unfiltered, giving a beer which is rich in vitamins and 100% natural. Gouden Carolus has unlimited storage (it even improves with age) and will charm you with its warm coppery colour and rich bouquet.

Faint hazy deep deep amber brown with super fine bubbled, large, lasting tan head generating drift wood lace. Fresh caramel malt, bubblegum, banana and a light cookie dough yeast aroma. Rich velvety smooth festive beer palate. Medium soft body, alcohol well masked with big classy balanced yeast and caramel flavours. Light bitter and sweeter fruity malty kick off, soft sweet malty halftime and final. Stands up nicely alongside its bigger brother.

Dark brown with a small vanishing head, fruity aroma, sweet spicey and fruity with a nice finish. Very pleasant.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2010 Brown rum flambé over wealthy meat, raisins and roasted malts…A good sherry with dark chocolate, perfectly blended and intelligently sweet...Subdued torch lighting in an elegantly rustic castle hallway…Het Anker truly have no reason to envy the Rocheforts of this world, their malt control is absolutely stunning and delectable...

Special beer. It has a taste of Rochefort, Guinness, but is not as rich like those. I was a bit dissapointed about the 'kraag' (How do you say that in english???) Anyway, great colour. Don't drink it too cold.

nice commercial beer, dubbeltype, nice presentation, behaves well on tap, easy going for the customers i have, but nothing special in the aftertaste than caramel, could do with some more spice

Starts off with a huge aroma of feral alcohol that blows your head off. Initially nasty as flavour couldn't get past the aroma. Soon turns to toffee and banana elements as it warms. Spicy finish, not really smooth. Nice deep colour, floaties, little head. Interesting, worth another try.

Dark amber color with a rich head. Flavors of toffee, orange and passion fruit. Finishes tart with a cedary spicy character.

Medium dark color, very little head despite being adequately carbonated, you can smell the alcohol (8%) in the aroma, otherwise pretty drinkable, better than many other Belgians that don't hide their alcohol as well. Hard to find, sadly, so I won't be rerating it any time soon.

This is a good belgian brown ale....very strong aroma which was somewhat displeasing but it tasted good.

Sweet and rich, just the way I like it! Wow, I'm surprised the average for this wonderful beer is as low as it is. Flabbergasted, I tell ya!
