Every year on the 24th of February, the birthday of "Charles the fifth", the Brewery brews the Gouden Carolus "Cuvee of the Emperor" in a limited quantity and with an eye on the highest quality and tradition.

This unique brewing, with only extra fine Belgian hops and with a higher alcohol level, guarantees a better evolution in the time, than the already known Gouden Carolus Classic.

The 75cl bottles are closed with a quality cork. Excellent to store several years. This exceptional ale ages well, developing a refined complexity and intense aromas. With powerful notes of roasted malts, caramel and plums, its surprisingly soft and fruity aroma combines a warm roundness with a refreshing taste. An imperial brew to cherish and enjoy in moderation.

Was 8% abv in 2000-2002, 10% in 2003 and 11% in 2004.

DISCLAIMER: This is a dark beer and the label has a blue diagonal line.

Prefiero otras.

75 cl corked 2017 bottle at Be Hoppy, Madrid. Pours very dark, yet shinny, reddish brown. Tan head is thick and long-lasting. Aroma is super-intense: lots of cherry, cherry jam and cherry drops, also coffe, vanilla and cola jellies. Mouthfeel is silky, with a delicate fizziness and a superb sourness that perfectly balances the mild bitterness. Round, long-lingering, coffee-loaded finish. Only reason it's not getting a perfect score is because I think it will develop its somewhat juvenile scents to a supreme degree over time (I'll have to taste it in five or more years time.)

Grunt fill from Albertsons. Right from the start, this a gorgeous beer. Ruddy brown with small cap of beige head. Fruity, sugary aroma wafts up, sweet. Taste follows with figs and raisins, prunes, and molasses. Just plain exquisite and smooth.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2018 Bought at La Bodega for $13.99, Cuvée Van de Keizer is an Imperial Dark Belgian Ale brewed by Brewery Het Anker. The air yields caramel, Belgian yeast, figs, and cherries. The appearance is a dark brown with a low beige head. When held up to light, a deep ruby amber reveals itself. The alcohol content is 11%. Caramel is tasted from beginning to end. Brown sugar sweetens the complexion and its texture is felt in the finish at the back of the throat. Figs accompanies the caramel body. Plums rounds out the body and accentuates the sweetness of the brown sugar. Raisins are felt upon the mouthfeel in the finish and brings a fullness. Sticky toffee is felt on the lips when you lick your chops. Belgian yeast is buttery, creamy, and enraptured by the caramel and brown sugar body. Banana compliments and thickens the yeasty touch. Cherries are noted with the slight alcohol burn and brown sugar take. Anise spice is experienced on the take and on the cusp of the finish. Licorice is sensed from start to finish and adds to the bite on the take. Cuvée Van de Keizer is incredibly delicious and sweet. The rich brown sugar and plum body dominate the flavors. The cherry and spices of licorice and anise are experienced fully as the beer warms. The sweetness to the dark may take you aback, but it wanes as you start experiencing the yeast and dark fruits. This beer floats you off as if you are on a cloud. Cheers. Prost. Drink for the love of beer.

Panel "Nudna Anglia vs Nieciekawa Belgia" w Strefie Piwa. Piana średniopęcherzykowa. Aromat niezbyt przekonujący, suszone owoce, twardy karmel, lekki alkohol. W smaku zaskakująco słodkie, sporo suszonych owoców, rodzynek, alkohol fajnie wpasowuje się w profil piwa. Za alkoholem znów uderza słodycz kandyzowanych owoców. Bardzo smaczne.
