Bottle. Cloudy copper colour. Big off-white airy head. Aroma: significant malts. Caramel, toffee. Esters. Spicy yeast. Midium body. Medium sweet strong maltiness is the main part of the taste. Hazed chestnut brown with a decent beige head.
Nose is toffee, grains, breads, light spice, sticky fruit rinds.
Taste comprises melted toffee, light spice, biscuit, fruit loaf, stewed fruits, brown bread, nutty twang, brown sugars.
Medium + body, fine carbonation, drying close with a boosty lick.

Bottle shared at Partizan - cheer to the crew. Pours unclear golden-reddish-brown, with a foamy, yellowish head. The aroma has a good bit of ripening berries, cherry, bread, Belgian yeast. Medium to big sweet flavour with lots of ready sugars, toffee, some earth, crusty brown bread, toffee, more berries, phenols. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming finish with lots of toasted sugars, more toffee, ripe berries, more year, bread. A bit straightforward but not bad overall.

Bottle from the Cambridge Blue. Mahogany and clear with a quickly dissipating off-white head. Notes of chestnut, raspberry and raisin bread lay of the surface of the heady aroma. Sweet taste with notes of burnt Eccles cake, buttered toast and foraged berries. It ends as it starts although there more evidence of a balancing bitter hop in the finish. T: Lots of dark fruits, strong prune flavour throughout. Quite bitter as well.

Okay, this is serious now. I enjoyed all the other Kapittel beers before this one, but we’re getting close to what I’d really recommend with this one. Interesting abv, pretty good taste, deeper and more bitterness than the Dubbel one, way closer to a really good Abbey beer in my opinion. Not a big step up, but rather a logical evolution... Quite lovely, but not yet on par with the Abt one. APPROVED BY TAVERNY’S BLACK METAL CREW!
