Bottle at home. Pours red-brown in colour with a tan head that fades quickly. Aroma is rich malt, some yeast notes and spicy hop. Taste is sweet to start with some bitterness to balance. Malt driven flavours with more spice, berry fruits and peppery hop. The body is slightly thin for a beer of this strength, but very pleasant all the same. At Bruges Beer Fest. It appears dark amber to brown with a creamy head. Aroma contains caramel, fruits, raisin, some coffee and chocolate. Tastes medium sweet towards a light but dry bitter finish. Medium to high carbonation, sticky texture. A decent Abbey Ale. Muggus69 (2491) - Yarram, Vic, AUSTRALIA - FEB 25, 2016
330mL bottle from International Beer Collector. BB 04/04/2017
Good looking murky bronze beer holding a good-sized creamy pale tan head.
Aroma of sweet biscuit, dark caramel/brown sugar, sultana, bread dough, stewed berries, prunes, and savoury cake spices.
Big creamy mouthful of a beer, not shy about its weight. Carbonation somewhat likely & coarse yet cuts through some richness.
Somewhat sweet upfront - biscuit, brown sugar, medium sort of candy sugar with dried fruits of sultana and figs, savoury spices of clove & nutmeg & pepper, doughy sort of finish. Booze warms things up a touch, dries it out a bit too, bitterness reasonably high for style.
Very tasty, good however lacking the finesse and complexity of a truly great beer. goozen (4071) - Leiden, NETHERLANDS - FEB 21, 2016
