COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hi-Wire’s annual spring seasonal release. Copper in color and light on the palate, Death Defying is an approachable and easy to drink Belgian ale, an appropriately timed option for those ready to unthaw from cold months and heavy dark beers. Death Defying marries the spicy and floral flavors of Styrian Golding and Czech Saaz hops with the traditional fruity flavors of Belgian yeast. This combination of flavors is balanced, as the noble hop combination doesn’t overwhelm the flavors of the Belgian yeast.

Bottle, listed as spring ale. Pale off yellow color. Mild sharp off hop aroma. Taste is smooth and hoppy, unlike any belgy I've had before. Perhaps a little bit of butter in there. Sharper hop flavor for a belgian. A little rude in the middle. Not sure what to think about this. No way is this the same style as Orval.

12 ounce bottle. The beer is a hazy gold with a white head of foam. The aroma is grainy and spicy. The esters are more on the herbal and spicy end of the spectrum. Medium body and medium to high carbonation.

oobawa (1921) - Tennessee, USA - APR 14, 2017
Not sure what the hell this beer’s supposed to be, but whatever it is, it’s not great. Never really reaches any strong Belgian notes, instead coming across as woodsy, mildly vegetal golden cream ale. Very flat, grainy malts with a burnt undertone, and the hops add a medicinal bitterness that does nothing for the sweetness. Finishes burnt and bitter. Odd.

decaturstevo (6343) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - APR 13, 2017
Lightly hazed yellow pour with creamy white head. Aroma is tropical and citrus fruity. Flavor is grapefruit and mango. Medium body with a solid floral bitter.

Bottle. Clear dark yellow with a thick, white head. Light peppery, spicy aroma. Weird bitter dry hop flavor. Not a fan of this one.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange color with white head. Orange, dirt, hoppy aromas. Orange, bitter, tangy, dirt flavors with a harsh lingering bitter citrus finish. Weird, dirt notes all around, not a fan of this one

DialSquare (5198) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAR 10, 2017
12oz bottle from Savor Growl: gold pour, thin white head. aroma is grass, little catty. tastes are bittersweet, floral, grain, little yeasty, honey. thin to medium, falls a bit flat.

emacgee (4722) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - SEP 27, 2016
Cloudy golden amber pour with one finger short lived sandy tan head. Nose is bready, yeasty, notes of pear flesh, pepper/spice, and earthy malt. Way too much body. Soft banana and pear in the flavor with sweet malt, spice, and muddled esters. Sticky finish.

3.5
Cybercat (6427) - Georgia, USA - MAY 26, 2016
Got this during my annual beer pilgrimage to Asheville. Pours clear golden with a thick, frothy, and fairly persistent porcelain head. Aroma delivers tempting fruity (pear + banana mainly), malty and yeasty tones plus a hint of butterscotch. Flavor is more subtle than bold, but pleases with notes of banana, pear, apple, yeast, floral and butterscotch tones. Body and fizz are OK, while finish adds a bit of hops to the mix. Defy death and jump into one.

3.4
thegreenrooster (4663) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - MAR 23, 2016
Pour is a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is a mix of clove and vanilla. Flavor is more of a hop presence with some pils like dry malt and a bit of fruity esters from the yeast. This beer was kind of all over the place. It kind of wanted to be a wit but then kind of branched off into a Belgian pale ale. Definitely a beer I would have again as it is flavorful on multiple levels.
