Our Russian Imperial Stout was aged for 10 months on a variety of hand-selected oak barrels. Napa Valley, Zinfandel, Kentucky bourbon and North Carolina dark rum barrels all add to the complexity of this illustrious stout. The blend of barrels imparts big roast and molasses flavors that are paired with the notes of chocolate and vanilla to create a creamy beer with huge flavors.

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2016 22 oz. bottle from The Hop Yard, Raleigh (2016 bottle). Dark brown, nearly black, pour with a frothy khaki head. Aroma of dark chocolate, oak, molasses, and faint dark fruit. Big charred malt taste which is somewhat tamed by notes of red wine, dark chocolate, roasted espresso, vanilla, and damp oak. Alcohol warming is moderate. Really well done.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with head. Roasted, sweet malt aromas. Flavors are light for a stout, roasted, chocolate, some bourbon notes.

Suttree (6609) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - JAN 12, 2016
Black, thick brown head. Smells kind of boozy, with a good deal of raisin and prune and some dark chocolate. Taste is more of the same, plus some espresso flavors. Finishes surprisingly dry.

nearbeer (5752) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 26, 2015
22 oz. Deep black with a big spongy head. Aroma is cocoa, espresso, toasted oats, ash and molasses. Tastes of iron, soy, espresso, wine and dry cocoa. Medium-plus body has a smooth medium carbonation and a nice balance. Might be a victim of too many barrels as none of the toasty oak quality is really evident, but a notable wine/alcohol presence is.
