Travlr (26431) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - MAR 28, 2013
Draft. Cloudy yellow color, medium white head. Aroma of citrus and banana. Taste is candied banana bubblegum.

Draught at Popeye, Tokyo. Cloudy golden, minimal head. Fresh aroma ofripe banana. Mid-sweet and fairlylight bodied with very soft mouthfeel. Mild malt but intense esters. Excellent weizen.

Bottle 500ml at Sosuke Ryokan, Takayama, Room 8 – shared with Mette. Cloudy yellow – white head. Sweetness, spicy, light banana notes, fruity, coriander, wheaty, spicy, herbal. Nice.

On tap at Popeye’s. Rich, thick wheat malt flavor. On the sweet side, but has a good bitter finish. Not sour at all. Crisp, but rich, with medium plus carbonation. Very nice, with lots of spice and banana. A top Japanese wheat beer.

This citrusy Hefeweizen is another fine example of Hidatakayama’s propensity for quality, genuinely delighting with its banana esters, herbal hops and idiosyncratic yeastiness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A fluffy head of foam decorates the cloudy beige yellow for the duration of the glass.
-The soft, big-bubbled carbonation increases drinkability while never restraining the flavor profile.
-Some tropical fruitiness is also expressed by the weizen yeast.
-This one came in second in a Hefeweizen taste-off at Popeye’s, after Fujizakura’s masterful take on the style.

On tap at Popeye, August 2013. Hazy golden/yellow with a medium white head. Aroma and taste of banana, wheat, some coriander and yeast. Fairly light body with not that much carbonation. An ok beer.

Bottle. Light clove aroma cloudy yellow, lowish head. Flavorwise it hits a Hefeweizen from Oberbayern perfectly: Sweet wheat, vanilla, clove and plenty of bananas. Kind of fitting I should try this in the Japanese alps. If I have to critisize, then the body could be a bit fuller and chewier, but that doesnt detract from the enjoyment,

Medium white head. Opaque hazy pale yellow body. Light milky banana aroma with citric notes. Taste is mealy rounded banana and milk. Dry citric aftertaste. It’s OK. (0.25l on tap.)

TimE (6275) - Tokyo, JAPAN - APR 16, 2005
This light brown brew has a light brown thin head with apples, spice and wheat in the nose. The body has some good apple pie character with a good amount of sweet and sour attributes, while the finish is once again sour. A well balance beer that is very interesting.
