330ml bottle bought at CitySuper in Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui.
Looks: Translucent dull straw golden colour with bits of yeast sediments; One finger head and crumpety white foam which lasted for 2 minutes; Beautiful sticky lacing and quite fizzy carbonation.
Aroma: Full maltyness, with floral, strong molasses, bread, spices, strong lemon and strong fresh grass.
Taste: Close to medium sweet Pilsener malt, with light grains, light grapefruit zest, floral, strong molasses, strong earth, light spices, thick bread, strong yeast, strong lemon, strong bitter hops and sharp grass.
Body: Mid-to-full body. Thick and slick palate.
Mouth Feel: Very solid Pils maltyness, good body, only slightly grainy. Molasses sweetness is thick but well balanced by strong sharp Saaz and Magnum like hops – earthy spicy on one hand and strong sharp green grassy bitterness on the other. This is German Pils in a blind tasting. Wow!
Hoppiness: Floral, spice, strong lemon and sharp fresh grass in nose. Light zesty grapefruit, strong lemon, strong earth, spice and fresh cut grass in taste. Bitterness is standard German Pils-level for a lasting closer to Jever-like strong astringent bitter-sweet finish.
After Taste: Slightly dry. Malty, sweet and strong bitter to mouth.
Comments: After having pretty poor craft Pils and lagers from the likes of Otaru and Abashiri, I never expect anything as good as this: Almost a carbon copy of quality German Pils with solid maltyness, Good looks, plus imaginative use of Saaz and Magnum-like hops. Very sharp and smart through already, but if the malt can be jacked up a bit more, then this one is right on top. Enjoy!
Bottle. Powdery sweet nose, Saaz-like hopiping, grain. Hazy medium gold straw, fluffy white head. Light sweetish malt, some fruit, lots of grain, trickles of bitterness, some tracks. Medium body. Lotsa maltiness, lotsa aroma hopping. Doesn’t really become integrated at any point. More or less okay. TimE (5935) - Tokyo, JAPAN - DEC 15, 2012
golden color, slightly tart nose. Very light dry mouth with slight tartness. Very good beer to start or to match with food. Very drinkable. Well balanced. Enjoyable. KyotoLefty (10311) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 18, 2012
Draught at the Yokohama GJBF 2012. Lager with unmalted 2-row barley added. Very grainy, barley nose. You really get the grain aroma. Not much hop. Pale yellow. Very cereal, grainy flavor. It really came out like they wanted. Very chewy and malty. I don’t particularly dig it, but it’s well done.
